I'll be moving stuff from Edinburgh to St Ives in Cambridgeshire, has to be the weekend of the 19th September. If I did a one way hire I'd be hiring monday morning but if I hired one down here I'd be going up Friday night and coming back monday.

Your probably looking at around £120 for the van and £100 for the one way fee.

Europcar are the cheapest

If I'm going for the one way option I only need it for one day. Cheapest one way, one day I've found is £150 (not europcar! Laughing ), cheapest 3 day is £98. It's a hefty premium to do the one way thing but it saves me driving all the way up there AND back.

If its only 1 day, Europcar won't do it anyway, they have a minimum 2 day on one way hires!

Who was that with? Arnold Clarke?
