You can also get shatter proof glasses that look exactly like normal pint glasses. They've been around for years.

They can already make a pint glass that it's vitrually impossable to glass someone with. I've used them (and dropped one).

Simply made of tempered safety glass, when it breaks (which is hard to do), the whole thing shatters into a million bits no bigger than a drawing pin head. Hell of a job trying to glass someone with that.

As said some of the new types of "glass" are good imitations, hard to tell the difference.

Biggest difference seen is when in a bar which does not buy its bottled beer in the plastic bottles, they will always pour the bottle out into a safe glass

Having lived near busy pubs for the past several years, I'm all for it. I'm fed up having to walk home over broken glass. In my previous place, I couldn't ride my pushbike into the courtyard because of the glass, but had to carry it in.

They started to use plastic cups when we started to throw the glasses that had been discarded at the entrance to our courtyard into the pub when they opened for cleaning in the morning. It took them ages to wipe all the broken glass off the floor, so they realised what a pain it is for us local residents.

Colin: the problem is that the British drunks cannot be civilised.

They do that here anyway. Before you leave they pour your drink into a plastic one at the door. People still glass each other on the way out this is why I dont go near pubs, one of my friends was glassed for no reason by a litho.

Pisses me off how its awkward for everyone else because certain people cant act right in public and especially with drink in them. Its like shops now, they are awkward! everything is made to deter shop lifters but harder for decent people! like I cant try on a pair of shoes I can only have one. Big tags on cloths, things with security cases on them so people cant read writing., Where will it all end?

There is always ging to be some wanker out there ready to punch someone when drunk, plastic pint or not. I just wish these ones who ban everything would actually tackle the problem and not around it.

I'm all for it having seen people get glassed and been come at with pint glasses and bottles (the pint glass hit me on the back of the head (circa 2004) but didnt smash - maybe it was a pre-production safe model).
