Honda CBR 600 F3 1997

hi,
I got a moped/scooter when i was 16 and when i turned 17 i got a Honda CBF 125 (very good bike).

Now I am planing on doing my A2 restricted test Shocked

.

I am looking at getting the Honda CBR 600 F3 1997. Is 1997 to old?
I mean its a Honda they built to last i know but i was just wondering about the age of bikes how long they usualy last???

Doesnt really matter how old the bike is as long as its been looked after fairly well, regular servicing and maintenance etc. The only problem with older bikes is that parts get scarcer and scarcer the older they get. Shouldn't be a problem with the CBR as they made loads of them and are really popular so plenty of parts about. My first bike was a 1989 vfr400 few years back and there were plenty of parts about for that. 90's Hondas are very reliable too. Im currently on a 1998 CBR 600fx and thats been solid its just hit 32k mileage. Actually met someone on one that had done 140k at beginning of the year.

1997 isnt too old depending on if its been well looked after and the mileage is reasonable on it.

You should probably be able to tell if its been thrashed or abused based on the condition of it Smile

I have got an old ts125 at home- a 1984 one lol

Personally, I wouldnt like anything with over 25,000 to 30,000 miles on it. Anything more would hopefully be reflected in the price. But it all depends on the condition of the bike as well, if its been well looked after etc. Smile

what does the F3 bit mean?

From what I have read I believe it means that its a version that introduced a higher top end speed compared to the earlier models due to a new airbox or something along those lines. Smile

probably the best one imo. twas what i wanted for my road bike but then i found my FW and thought 2 bikes exactly the same would be handy when working on them

fx/y has updated dash, alloy frame but still good old trusty carbs Smile

early Fi models werent very economical compared to the carbers

I loved mine too(it seems to be the consensus) very clunky gearbox and cam chain tensioners are fragile tho, mine(now my sons) is on it`s 3rd in about 16k miles

I've got a 1999 FX.

It's almost identical to the others upto 2006 (same frame etc) except it doesnt have fuel injection (2001 onwards) and one or two other changes.

it looks like an F3/FT to me same as mine Smile

tbh you can`t really go wrong with any of them.
Take the plunge and go for a nice clean regularly serviced well looked after model.
Buy private you`ll get a better deal but ask lots of questions and be prepared to walk away, go to a dealer and you`ve got a bit of comeback.

i have a 1990 F1 "jellymould", its my first "big" bike and i love it, mines done 33k and has been well looked after, its in better nick and more reliable than my 04 cbr 125 was ! :

ha yeh that was after a nice big clean, it does see the rain yes, the previous owner really looked after it,

if has every MOT and full service history, love it to death, only thing is find is its a noisey engine.

doesnt half rattle and whine, but most cbr 600's do
