Maybe a little punctuation?
Unfortunately I imagine that with an MT50, as with a lot of 50ccs you need to buy a better bike to go faster. if it does 45 then it isn't restricted, and so I doubt that you'll get it to go any faster really.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but 50's are designed to do 30 and little more I'm afraid.

Shouldn't think they are hard to come by, H100s were made until 13 years ago so theres still some about. Have a look on part finder to search bike breakers for a complete engine, although id expect youd pay about £100 - £120 for a working one with carbuerttor etc.

what is the law on changing engines? does the bike then leagally change capacity or is it just couted as a modification?
I have a 125 superdream, these things are hellishly expensive considering what you get. where as the 250 dream is dirt cheap as no one wants them, as they would rather get a bigger bike. so could i buy a 250 dream, drop a 125 in it,. then legally ride it on L plates?
If so i think ive found a nice little earner |

I used to have an MT50. My one did about 45-50 at a push.
If you put a BB Kit in it dont expect it to last long. The MT50 was one of the worst 50cc bikes for them, and always blew up very quickly. (Con rod snapping). ____________________ Carbon closet tart! https://www.bikepics.com/members/r6stuk/02r6/

Hi
Suspect you will struggle to get those kinds of speeds from it, partly from gearing (similar to the H100 you cannot gear them high enough for a proper top speed). That would probably require 6~8hp, and the MT5 engine is not that good.
Carb wise not sure what is available, but I would doubt the reeds would make any difference to top speed at all (they allow fuel / air into the engine crankcases while the piston is going up, but stop it getting back out through the carb when the piston is going down). However not sure if the MT5 uses fibre reeds or steel reeds but if they are steel then it might be worth upgrading just so when they fail they are less likely to damage the piston / barrel.
All the best

My MT50 was dead slow, so I took the frontpipe off and cleaned out the port - it was half clogged. This gave me improved acceleration and a bit of a bigger top end - 40mph. The standard MT50 speed is 35mph, so I think unless you are willing to spend money on a good quality big bore kit and gvie it a good run it it may be good for a few thousand miles. As for derestriction - you will have to get a bigger carburetter - at least 16mm as the one on it is 13mm. There is also a stopper plate over the reed valve, so rather than breaking that off, buy race reeds for it. To be honest I left mine standard because straining an engine of that age will do more harm than good. I'd say get race reeds to improve acceleration but as for top speed get used to it, then you will appreciate your 125 an awful lot more.
EDIT: Some sites you may find benificial are www.myhondamt5.cjb.net and www.50cc.nl |
