Some of you may have read and replied to This Thread Where I detailed a friend witnessing me fitting on the bed next to her whilst sleeping. I being completely unaware it had happened untill she asked me about it the next day.

Well Today i totalled my bike, I dont have many memories of the incident, all i remember is that after filling up at the petrol station i didnt do my jacket up properly and it began to flap around doing NSL. so i think "i need a layby"... [Scene missing]....*BANG* as bike hit curb (which i felt)... [Scene Missing].... "Why am i on my back in a fie...OH SHIT MY BIKE!". Thankfully a passing motorist saw me fly towards the field and stopped to check i was OK, me being an idiot got straight up off the muddy field and dusted myself off blisfully unaware of what the next few hours would bring.

[1.5 Hours later]

Sat in GPs office describing both the nights incidents and the small details i could remember from the bike crash. He sat forward with a kindly look on his face and asked "how did you get here?" to which i replied " I drove the family car (all above board)". He said "Well, i think you have nocturnal epilepsy, which means that someone will need to drive you back home... as i strongly recommend for both yours and the general public's safety that you not drive untill this has been thoroughly investigated by your local neurology dept".

[a Phone call and a car trip later]

Sat here on BCF almost in tears at my career and love of driving teetering over the edge of the metaphorical swanny...

Sad Unlucky dude, hopefully they won't take too long sorting out a neurology appointment and getting you started on appropriate drugs.

You'll be off the road for 12 months but you will get your license back. Mr. Green

Sory to hear that, but glad that you are ok after the accident, as it could have been so much worse.

I'm sure it's little consolation just now, but my cousin suddenly developed epilepsy in her 40's and she was worried sick that her career as a Headmistress would be over as she needed to be able to drive too. They got her on medication and she is now absolutely fine several years on.

Keep positive and I'm sure that with the right meds you'll be back to normal in no time. Friends and family will rally to get you through the initial no driving period, so don't panic!

Prov, whilst it's a good thing you're ok mate at least you now know the reason for the sleep situation...But...You knew there was a chance that you could have a form of epilepsy yet you still chose to drive/ride, for that I'm going to call you a Clown, the off today could have been much much worse, for yourself, family or members of the public...

I know you know this but I'm telling you anyway, on the flip side, all the best regards it and hopefully you can find the right meds to control it, all the best mate and keep your chins up... Thumbs Up

The odd thing is that all this seems to have been brought on by you sleeping with a woman. FFS you are not going to cure your gayness by doing a chick and the attempt obviously made you ill.
I hope it can be easily sorted and you are back to work and on the road ASAP.

The Dr only "thinks" you have NE, the fit could have been a violent dream. There have been no tests as yet and you were not asleep when you crashed. there are many reasons why you could have blanks including a bang on the head or other trauma to the brain from sudden deceleration. Wait for the tests.

You having a fucking laugh?

He's a Paramedic / EMT or whatever the hell they call themsleves these days. Driving is part of his job, can't drive then what's the point? Yes, he may be the bloke in the back of the van, but then any unexplained LOC will need to be fully dealt with and treated accordingly and that takes time. Not being able to drive for 12 months, thats suggesting that it'll be diagnosed and treated right away, very unlikely so expect even longer.

Without sounding gloomy, you really want to be in a cardiac arrest or trauma and then pass out on your colleague? Not good for you, your colleague and even more so, the patient.

You need to speak with Occupational Health and your line manager ASAP.

In my very limited experience I would suggest that the two incidents are possibly unrelated. I know very little about various forms of epilepsy although I have know several people who have been diagnosed with it. In every case, when they have a fit, they pretty much blank out for the day and usually fall asleep.

Purely with this in mind the bike crash sounds like an accident from lack of attention with the shock of the situation causing some loss of memory.

I'm not trying to be negative, in fact in my own very poor way, I'm trying to suggest that it may not be anywhere near as bad as you think. I totally agree with the suggestion that you should speak to your shift manager/whoever.

Here's hoping the EEG turns out normal and you were just distracted and highsided on some overbanding/diesel/gravel.

Something which in my experience goes along the lines of "Riding bike round corner in normal manner .... *BANG* ... Why am I sliding along the road on my arse some 6ft away from my rapidly rotating motorcycle?"

EDIT: Next step is to not let the NHS fanny you about. Push for an early appointment. The NHS seems to be set up almost entirely for people who don't work. Stress that "You'll get a letter through the post for a referral appointment some time in the next six weeks." means six weeks off work and is in no way good enough.

Doubly gutted for you being a biker and a paramedic ( two of my favourite kinds of people ) and really glad you came out of the accient in one piece.

Can only agree with what has already been said, there could have been any number of reasons why you had the off and can't remember anything. Nothing has been written in stone yet and I know it's easier said than done but try and stay positive.

Best of luck with everything workwise, let us know how you get on Thumbs Up

There is not much I can say, other than I hope you can get this resolved quickly. Remember you are still a very young guy, a year sorting this out, however traumatic at the time, will be insignificant in the long run.

Good luck.

I'm agreeing with Ariel and Stinkwheel here. It's common to miss chunks of accidents. There are a few I *wish* I could remember as apparently they were quite spectacular.

On the nocturnal epilepsy front, no disrespect to your friend but I'd wait for your tests results before presuming the worst. Hope it pans out well for you Thumbs Up

Some good works of advice.
Take comfort in the fact that it's just a best guess that can be 100% wrong.
If you've ever watched House you'll know how true this is and how much doctors just grapple in the dark based on what they think you've told them.

Hope you're ok and back on the road soon Thumbs Up

Sorry to hear that- glad your ok though Smile
You have got to think positive though- even if they do end up diagnosing you with something like epilepsy, there are so many medications out there now with more on there way so, in time, they should be able to control it. Im sure then if your seizure free within a certain amount of time, your be back on your wheels in a worst case scenario Smile

Fingulars crossed that it isn't what they think it could be, eh?

As for what others have said, ditto the sentiment of 'not remembering' the details of the crash... 'apparently' (well according to my witnesses), I did a spectacular somersault off my bike when I got hit, yet to this day (10 years later) I still have NO recollection of any of the accident, at all!!!

Stay as positive as possible... Karma

had been reading the other thread, sorry to hear about your off, keep your chin up and I hope the incidents are unrelated,
surely rather than lose your job you would end up on the sick for a bit? its not as if you have lost your licence through drink driving? you cant help what has happened so it would be unfair dismissal surely?

good luck
