new XJ6 Divvie

got one of these today as a courtesy bike, so i thought i'd share my impressions:

1) it's a rev hungry bastard: it felt happiest at 7+K revs, it will work at lower revs but that's where it picks up its skirts and runs.

2) sounds quite 2T ish: probably from the high revving.

3) it's narrow and low:
width wise the seat is probably as narrow at the front as my KTM, however because of the slope of the tank every time you brake there is a close balls-tank incident.
the pegs felt quite high (but this is probably due to the fact i'm tall)
because of the combination of the pegs and seat slope i found it quite heavy on the thumbs

4)brakes had decent feel without being too strong

5) weight: feels light and fairly neutral, but to combine narrowness and a decent tank size, the tank is quite high and i can imagine it will feel a little top heavy when filled

6) finish seemed good ( although the white is actually a light cream)

but overall i quite enjoyed it as a difference, felt a lot better than the bandit 650 i've had before. i think as a beginner bike its quite good ( for shorter riders ie: below 6ft) the only major gripe i had was the left hand mirror cant be adjusted up as that is the direction to unscrew it from the stem.

I had one recently as a loan bike and I was quite impressed for what is an entry level bike. It had 7 miles on the clock so was still tight but felt like it had potential when it loosened up. A mate of mine has had his for 4 months now and really likes it.

A mates just bought one, I haven't had chance to get a review off him yet as the silly bastard's still out on it trying to get it run in as quick as poss...

I'm a bit stuck on this bike... the engine looks just like the FZ6 engine but i dont know if the internals are different. They are rev happy and i would love to be let loose on one i think it would take me back to my FZR400 riding style but i've got An RS125 to buy and a SRAD to fix for now.

I used to ride the original XJ6 back in early '80s and loved it. I now ride a MK1 fazer. Recently a Yamaha dealership tried to persuade me to buy a new divvy, but I don't actually like the look of them, it looked too small and narrow in the shop & I don't like the fairing.

I was so close to buying one instead of my ER6...in some ways, I wished I'd gone for the Yamaha. Felt like a modern day CB1, lovely to thrash the absolute crap out of..... not that bad looking either.
