DEP Silencer + stock expansion chamber fitting issues

(This is for my Yamaha DTR '07 plate)

Just got my DEP silencer today but I went to fit it and I noticed it's not supplied with any holders or anything so it's rather loose at the point where it should attach to the front pipe... I then removed the clip from the stock silencer (which was annoying welded on ) but it's far too big for the DEP silencer. I've heard of people using the stock front pipe and DEP silencer, but I've never read about any fitting issues... Can anyone help? Don't wanna have to bodge it as I know 2-stroke engines rely on the exhaust heavily for power so air leaks are a big no-no.

You probably want the spring loaded rubber joining hose from the earlier model DT-R as I have the same set up stock / DEP on my 89 and it fits fine

The dep factory where they make all the dep pipes is down the road from my house, you want me to get their phone number for you?

They are pretty alrite down there so should help you out.

Believe it or not there is only less than 20 guys who make the dep pipes and that is their only factory- if you want to call it that, the place is quite small.

I know the guy Ian down their, he makes all the end cans.

They made me up a new link pipe for my ninja and didn't charge me much at all.

Nah, I don't think they could help me much, really. Here's some pics I took to illustrate my problem:

Fits on fine... just, too fine I suppose There's a bit of a gap, and of course, nothing to hold the pipe in place... Oh well, I shall have to call Captain Bodge-job in, aka my dad

I wouldn't be too worried about that a bit of blow past at the tail pipe joint wouldn't make much difference, they're only ment as a slip on silencer, they work fine like that I've done thousands of miles with one on a TS & it didn't cause any problems

the exhaust on my gpr (same engine as your DT) is only slipped on like that & it works fine


you could cut a thin slot in it about 10-15mm long & use an exhaust clamp or jubilee clip to tighten it up if you're really worried about it

Only bummer with leaving it is all the two stroke crud thats going to get blown out and cover the battery below

I whacked it on today and there seemed to be no leaks at all, but yeah once I gut the stock front pipe and attach it properly I'll use some kind of sealant along with some rubber and hose clips
