Forks Problem

Help!

I had the front of the bike jacked up, removed the cap bolts, spacer, springs etc to check the oil levels in the forks then the front stand slipped and the bike fell forward and compressed the forks fully.

I have now jacked it up again but the forks are locked solid - i.e the inner tube wont move up or down within the lower tube. I cant get the springs or spacers back in now as there is not enough space.

How can I get the forks to move again, i.e get the front wheel to drop down to extend the forks now its jacked up again - I hope I have not forked them up

Should just be a case of pulling them down. It can take a bit of pressure if they still have oil in.

It's a slow, steady pull. Try pulling the damper rod up and down a few times first.

Some older bikes (early 90's kawasakis in particular) have an anti-dive device attached to the brake system that locks the forks under braking. Not entirely sure what to do if one of those is fitted. There would be a part linked into the brake hydraulics if one is fitted.
