District 9

[Ichy]

I watched District 9 last night and I've been thinking about it all day. Personally I think this is one of the best films I've watched in a long time. I felt really drawn into it, possibly due to the way it moves from a documentary into a story. Lots of open questions at the end but I think this adds to the overall feel. Not sure if its been released in the UK yet but I'ld be really interested in other opinions.

Without trying to give anything away, my wife said that she felt bad about the way the aliens were referred to and treated. I guess they have really played on the location used for filming by adding racial connotations.

I was extremely wary of seeing it as I was concerned about the clumsy 'irony' in the clips of black ZAF's mugging off the aliens.

Having watched the film I've cheered up a little, it was pretty good and the lead character is quite likable. The action scenes towards the end are quite good, despite the whinings of more up-market film critics.

Worth a look, anyway, imho.

saw the film when it premiered in america, pretty good. was a bit weird how its a documentary then changed completely half way through.

i liked how the aliens were treated as it is how we often treat illegal aliens (watch bnp video's to see how similar they are).

i thought it was a bit odd that nobody here had even heard about it after all the media surrounding it in the usa. for some reason wikipedia had europe release date at 19th of august.

just glad i saw it before someone spoiled it for me

I would tell him not to bother, honestly one of the worst films i have payed to see.

The trailer makes it look a lot better then it really is, i thought it was supposed to be full of action and comedy moments but there are about two action sequences that last less then a minute and two or three little jokes.

Well dont expect Pulp fiction but the film is a good laugh. Wasn't much i could fault it on apart from the out of place soundtrack in parts.
I think a lot of it has all been done before but just not quite in the Tarantino style, its not quite as self induljent script wise as more recent releases. I think it's worth a watch.

Im keen to go and see District 9 just for the subject matter and because im a fan of anything action/CGI/aliens/gadgetry etc.

What im expecting and what i get though, i hope to be two totally diferent things as i can see this being a generic alien 'invasion' blaster with political undertones.

I want a european touch over here!

Nothing like that really. Imagine a million refugees turning up at Jo'berg and the way they are likely to be treated by a country that doesn't want them. Its certainly not Predator or Aliens. Not even Close Encounters or ET.

Inglorious Bastards was excellent. I didn't think that much of the District 9 trailer, but since everyone says it's so good it has to be worth a watch.

I saw D9 last night, thought it was pretty cool to be honest. I think that the way the aliens were treated was probably realistic of how we would 'if' it actually happened. And for some reason i cant stop myself from saying 'FOOKIN' in a south african accent.
