mz rt125 problemmo lol

well i have had it around two weeks, bought it privately, ...

anyway the issue is, i rode to work yesterday parked bike up for a few minutes turned off, came out, put key in ignition turned it on, lights and everything came on, pushed starter, and nothing, the rev counter sort of twitches when i push starter button but no noise or anything, no water in the ignition switch i checked, battery full charged and tested, horn works and lights are very bright, could it be a faulty sidestand switch? dodgy starter relay?

it's likely to be something silly if it worked one minute & not the next

as you say it could be the stand switch or the relay, but I would be inclined to check the fuses & the connections 1st, the side stand switch can be checked easy enough by taking the wires off & joining them together

do the lights dim at all when you push the starter button if not then there's no current flow which would sugest an open circet (blown fuse, loose connection, broken wire, dodgy relay... etc)

if they do, then your starter motor might be sticking, giving it a tap with a soft faced mallet while you press the button will normally free it off but if it happens again then it would need looking at

lights dont dim at all, only thing i get is a slight jump on the tacho, being a newbie im struggling lol, ill get there tho, are relays specific to bikes or can u use alternates?

I couldn't tell you what kind of relay or solenoid you have on yours

check your fuse's 1st, then check your side stand switch by taking the wires off & joining them together, then if your still having no joy check as many of the connections as you can find all over the loom, don't just look at them though, unplug them & look at the terminals to see if they're corroded at all, clean if needed & plug them back together you might find that one or two are loose or a bit mankie, the older MZ's are pretty well known for having sub par electrics but I couldn't say about the newer ones.

well heres the update, i went outside, strripped off the panels and started going thru the fuses, changed them all, still no joy, chopped side stand switch, joined together, still nothin, stuck a screw driver over the terminals on the relay and it burbled, then when i hit the starter it fired into life? dodgy relay perhaps,

just took her for a 20 mile ride and stoped a few times and she started on the button everytime

bizarre, maybe it was a loose connection i may have unintentionaly found lol

there is a relay on the left hand side behind the panel, its a small grey bow and is called relay 19. it may be this thats giving you problems

TBH ive disconnected the side stand on my rt as its a pain in the tits
