Hi All,

I've just bought a Honda Hornet 600 with just over 16k miles on the clock. After checking the service history I've noticed it is due it's 16k service which is quite a big one. Honda have quoted 450+Vat and another garage closer to home have quoted 300. They say the cost is high because they will change all the spark plugs + clean out the valves. Is 300 a reasonable price to pay for this work? The same garage also quote 230 for a normal service which I think is too high and intend to do these intrim services myself, but how neccessary is it to have the valve work done? For info the bike is a year 2000.

Thanks,
Neil.

TBH Shifty

I didnt get my valve clearences done at 16k. IMO they wont need doing. I got oil/filter, plugs cleaned air filter and all the usual stuff. I payed £125 inc parts.

Otherwise i would have been parted with an extra 180 or so. When i needed a new tyre i didnt have the money.

Rolling Eyes Oh well

I paid £297 for a "big service", to have the valves done, along with everything else (included the brakes being stripped and cleaned).

if anyone says ''clean out the valves'', laugh, then walk away.

at 16k i would consider that an oil, oil filter, air filter and brake fluid change.

CHECK the valve clearances. theres a high chance you wont need any work doing.

a reasonable price for this if you have to get it done is parts plus roughly 2-3 hours labour.
