Something has been demolishing one of my rose bushes, after a quick hunt i discovered the culprit:

It's a vapourer moth caterpillar, quite a funky looking little thing too! I didn't disturb it as i'm always a tad fearful of hairy caterpillars (especially those of the brown tail moth).

What i find interesting about the vapourer moth, is that the female is flightless, and despite being such a crazy looking caterpillar, the adult male is a really dull looking thing:

While staying in North Norfolk recently there was a plague of ladybirds/ladybugs/bishy barnabys whatever you want to call them. They were everywhere, in huge numbers, especially on some of the beaches.

This picture isn’t strictly speaking “in” my garden, but in the field behind the house.

In parts of Germany they've had a ladybird plague too. I went there about a month ago and it's actually disguisting how many of them there are.

No idea what butterfly this is, not easy getting the things to sit still for long enough. Quite a devious little fella, walked up to it and it closed its wings and represented a dry brown leaf, excellent cammo!

Continuing my safari, i've discovered this little chap today:

It's a Grey Dagger Moth caterpillar. Like a lot of moths, the adult is fairly drab in contrast to the crazy looking caterpillar:

I also discovered why i couldn't find these chaps in the lists for moth and butterfly catterpillars:

It's because they're Sawfly larvae of some description - i've not been able to 100% identify the ones in my garden yet, but i think it's cool the way they all line up like the one's in the picture.
