As much as i love bikes and the feeling they give me i can`t be arsed with it anymore. My whole body`s aching, the weather here is always shite, the roads are wank, car drivers are a nightmare,i`m sick of the hassle of kitting up just for my commute,i`m tired of avoiding hazards all the time,i can`t take any more "near-misses",...and did i mention THE WEATHER`S ALWAYS SHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!
It`s gonna be a hard transition going back to a car but i really want the comfort and simplicity for a while so i`m selling the rsvr asap and i`m gutted about it .
Will definately start saving though and get myself a toy that i can use in fair weather but that`s it for me now....i`m done with riding all year round!
I just hope the recession hasn`t affected bike selling/buying too much or i`m gonna be stuck on 2 wheels for the foreseeable future |

Why is it silly to have a thousand cc superbike as your only transport .
And no, I don't have superhuman throttle control. It's perfectly easy to ride a 1000cc bike year round and not have too many incidents - I just use a higher gear if it's slippy .
I'd agree it's maybe silly to have a shiny new bike as every day transport, but then I'd say it's silly to have a shiny new car too, or actually, anything shiny and new when something older will do the same job .
To the OP: So you're not going to avoid the hazards in the car, which you were avoiding on the bike and are going to have 'actual crashes' rather than 'near misses' . Sounds like you should stick to the bike, frankly!
Answer to crap weather is better kit. I often get less wet getting to work because I can park right by the doors, as opposed to those in cars that have to walk half way across the car park . |

G, you always have to be obtuse don't you? If you didn't have to go through town to get to work, I'm certain that you'd choose a car to commute in if it wasn't for the fact that you are mr stubborn! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

hazards will be still be there but if one catches me out i`d rather i was sat in a metal cage (mainly thinking of winter and heavy rain saying that)
also i`m less likely to actually have an "incident" in the car coz it`s harder to be reckless commuting in a car "for most people". (can`t overtake as much, dont get tankslappers, more stable etc).
My kits fine but i`m fed up with getting soaked, fed up of not being able to see through my visor coz the rains that hard, fed up with being on the motorway wearing specs that have got wet,and fed up of never being able to guage which way the weathers gonna go before i head out.Thats only half of it.....the problems are endless so please dont get me started or i`ll go on and on and on...lol.
and i`ll have to say this coz i don`t think you`ve actually been there and tried it......but an rsvr is a cunt of a bike to use everyday regardless of the weather. At 30mph or under they`re complete dogs and wont run smoothly. Its all "cough cough splutter...jerk jerk wobble..."
It`s probably fair to say that i`d find it easier to commute on a lower powered/more comfy bike but none of them appeal to me.
Purely cosmetic/image reasons
I need a car....end of story me thinks

Stubborn? <Shrugs>, maybe. Or, of course, maybe I just enjoy riding bikes. Further from that, maybe I've thought about the disadvantages of bikes and found very easy and simple ways to mitigate them . But no, it's obvious that it's just me being stubborn, 'cos it's not like I'm lazy or 'owt .
Sorry, didn't realise it was a big sports twin; presumed it was a 4 when people said 1000cc superbike; I appreciate they can be a bit lumpy low-down. Could always down gear it a bit of course .
I do commute daily in 30s/40s on a tuned 900cc 'superbike', but being a four it's smoother low down.
The riding position is fairly serious, but I only find it an issue for doing shoulder checks (I have no mirrors).
As for the hazards - as you say, quite a lot of it is a case of you being forced not to take risks, when you could voluntarily not take them on the bike. Fair enough if you appreciate that; a lot of people don't and seem to think that some how a car will magically make everything better. Having a medium-fast car, I know that's not always the case :S. Definitely my bike has more grip than the car in the rain - I'd like to get TC for the car, but then I could get TC/ABS on a bike too.
There are many situations where you are less likely to be injured in a car, but there are many in a bike where you would avoid an accident you might not in a car.
If you're getting soaked, then it sounds like your kit isn't fine. With the right kit on, I don't get soaked. Takes me under a minute to get it off - when I first started my new job I'd turn up in the pouring rain and they had no idea I was arriving on a bike!
So, in conclusion, sounds like you need the new V4 RSV and some waterproof kit .
Oh and while it may not have it's full compliment of 143hp, it'll still happily poke it's head up at any point in second with a quick flick - second probably goes to about 90 with it being downgeared (I checked the other day and first was a /true/ 67mph). |

I have to agree with the G man on this point. I also commuted on a ZX9 for a while through varying weather conditions. Mine was a 140 mile daily round trip with 90% being motorway / fast A roads and the remainder town work.

I don't think this could be called a typical commute for the average person. Essentially you've got just as much town work as I do, but 50 miles of extra NSL roads, and I live in a village with a typical distance to the nearest industry centre. It would be much more sensible to do this on a small cc commuter, whereas you have over 60 miles to blast away on your ZX9.
OP, what is your commute comprised of? ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)
Former Bikes: Honda MSX125 (2014), BMW Funduro (1996), Honda VT500 (1983), Yamaha FZR250 (1989), Suzuki GZ125 Marauder(2005),:Triumph TT600 (2002) (stolen)
From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper. |

I personally love dodgy grip conditions, it's damn good fun. Less heroic filtering allowed, but never mind.
It's when I can't bastarding see that I get concerned. Like riding home in the dark (basically anytime past lunchtime in winter) while its freezing rain... THAT sucks.
Everything else is an interesting challenge. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
