So off I went today to put a deposit on my new bike, and got home to check when my current insurance expires.

18th September 2009 Sad and the problem is that I get my new bike on the 3rd September 2009.

I tried calling up my insurance company and was told "we cannot change over from your 125cc to a 600cc as your on the small bike scheme" so now I don't know what todo.

Only option I can think of is the bring the bike home on the 3rd and leave it in the garage for 15days until I get my 2nd year of no claims Very Happy

Another gripe is that if I don't state in my insurance that I will be carrying passengers, and I have an accident with pillion will my insurance not have to pay up!?

You do not have to state you will be carrying pillions as it is a standard extension to cover. HOWEVER it can be exempted by an underwriting company, in which case they must inform you. If you are asked will you require pillion cover you need to answer correctly, otherwise you may be placed with a company that does not cover pillions.

Yes they will pay out in an accident, for injury to the pillion( at the end of the day it is 3rd party liability), however they would seek to reclaim the cost from you, initially by not paying out for your losses and potentially by suing you.

Here is a radical solution to your problem regarding the dates, pick up your new bike on the 18th Wink

However if you were to use your head, and actually try being honest with the insurance companies, explain how the dates fall and I think you will find there will be quite a few willing to accept you with 2 yrs NCB and will allow you to prove it when the original policy expires.

This is the most obvious solution to your problem. Those 15 days will fly by anyway.

I had exactly the same thing mate!

I had a new YBR 125 with cheaper insurance (like £100 special offer or summit) and I bought the Hornet 600.

Rang them - nothing they could do they couldnt swap it over for me. I had to take the insurance for the hornet with out the no claims. Then once the renewal came for the Hornet year after I had the year on the hornet then the year from the YBR so I had 2. Price dropped loads then!

Don't they normally give you 28 days to send them proof of no claims?

Some companies will accept that you won't be using the other bike and will take the no claims, providing, of course, you don't actually have a claim on it in that time Smile.

I insured my new bike on the 26th of August, officially my year's no claims from the RS50 doesn't come until the 6th of September but I used the 1 year NCB anyway.

I insured with the same company so surely they would have of spotted it.

The people employed in such places are employed on the basis they may have at one point been near someone that speaks English, little else.

all sorted guys. The woman on the other side of the phone was very helpful. Got a good quote, told her the situation, she called AXA and asked them and they accepted to let me send them the proof of 2 years on the 18th and start covering me on the 3rd. RESULT!

you could always look at the temporary insurance cover places where you can get insured for anything from 1to 28 days, Get insured on the new bike for a couple of weeks (with "0" no claims), then just insure the new bike when the old policy expires !

When i was looking round, for a zzr600 it was £22 a month fully comp with "0" no claims at 25 years old..

but then £22 to be able to ride your new bike for the first fortnight is prob worth paying - imo !
