Today i was in Chirk (wales) And saw these.

Nearly 300yrs old
How did they make them? I mean how did they weld them?
I think they look great...checkout the red hand.

They aren't welded as such, they are forged. Lots of heat, lots of hammering.

Not really that great, they are placed across a road with a concrete pillar in the middle. How the hell can you drive through them Laughing

You dont. They're actually part of a private garden on the other side of them now.

Entrance to the castle site is to the left of them.

Exactly, so in all honesty they are useless, like the throw pillows women insist on covering beds with Rolling Eyes

Useless? Philistine!

Preservation - keeping them so 300 years on from when they were built they could still be seen by all, appreciating the craftmaship in the 18th century - no CNC then.

Doubt my gates will see 30 years, never mind 300.

Agree with the pillows though Thumbs Up

Though what is the point of gates across the road if cars/carriages cannot pass? Surely they are relegated to the status of a fence Wink

Did anyone else think the title of the thread was a rather quaint euphemism for a near death experience?
