yes, i know, i know. Mr. Green

browsing on the bay of E as one does, i stumbled across this

https://tinyurl.com/mq4bok

obviously no-one with more than ½ a brain cell would actually **buy** one of the damned things but i must confess it doesn't look
half bad - a bit GPZ500-ish around the fairing.

i'm guessing 20bhp so could make a potential commuter - until it rains and it turns into a heap of rust. Laughing

are the chinese starting to get there?

My Chinese bike has been fine so far, but the quality control's far from consistent. Your best bet is likely to be with the more 'expensive' Chinese models, since the really cheap ones tend to have some shocking welding on the frame. The more expensive ones have got some ugly welding, but it holds together OK, in my experience.

YMMV, of course.

i suppose if it is brand new and you keep it high maintained then you shouldn't have much problems with them but it might go for a highish price and you need to get it reg

Just say no!

More than anything else, finding parts will probably be the hardest thing. You're always going to be able to find some kind of equivalent part, but from experience that road can be an ugly one to go down.

Anyway, it does look quite nice I'll give you that, nicer than what I've seen so far Thumbs Up

Really? It's been a piece of piss so far for me. I haven't needed many parts, due to it not exploding at me like many have predicted, but CMPO have been pretty good thus far.

How long have you had your chinky bike for ?

Mine lasted 9 months before i finaly called it a day and got shut.
Had multiple problems eg failed clocks bad wiring dodgy welds involving things falling off or cracking. Made a post somewhere.

Main thing you need to ask yourself is its a 250 so should be able to do at least 80mph is it really worth putting your life at risk testing the chinese relability ?.

You could buy a older Known brand for around the same amount which you can guarantee parts for get advice on any problems and basicly put your trust in.

The photos are very poor, and I'm sure you can get a Yammy YBR250 or whatever it is for about the same money.

Basically, until I stop hearing stories of "My chinese bike disintigrated under me" then I'll never advise anyone to get a chinese bike. Even the more well known makes like Superbyke or Lifan...

My Chinese bike lasted me 9 months, although I guess it could have been more if I looked after it better. I came off of it at about 50MPH and so broke a lot of plastic and bent a lot of metal (I didn't have a scratch though). I still carried on using it for 3 months after that but a lot of things were broken that I couldn't replace. I really wasn't able to find new parts Sad

I've seen some pretty shocking examples, especially those honda trailie copies, when you get up close to them the paint work is really naf, & all the fixtures are really cheaply made. I've seen a couple of them that have just fell apart slowly through daily use, there's absolutely no way I would recommend anybody get a second hand one as you just don't know what the previous owner has had to do to keep it going

but this is brand new & actually looks quite neat (up close might be a different kettle of fish) & he has three of them for sale

if every one thinks i'll of these machines then you could see these go for a real bargain price so it might be worth giving it a punt

it might turn out to be a heap of crap, but if you can pick one up for less than a grand & you take it up the tip in three years time when it fails it's 1st MOT, you will still have lost less that you would through depreciation on an equivalent brand new Japanese machine

worth considering

But if you picked up a used Japanese machine for less than a grand you'd probably get most of it back in 3 years.

there is allways that i suppose,

I was just using the new bike as an example, cause someone has to buy new every now & then or there wouldn't be any second hand bikes

That's very true.

My one is 13 months old now, and it was used throughout the winter, and is mainly kept for short-distance journeys now: 100mpg vs the 40mpg I get from the Bandit's a bit of a no-brainer. For anything longer than about 15-20 miles, I prefer the effortlessness of the 600. Nothing's broken on it thus far, and the finish doesn't bother me too much: for anyone that read the project thread, I've pretty much ratted it now, anyway.
It's cheap and cheerful - I don't expect anything other of it, really. The main reason I went for it was that I find CGs, YBRs and similar bike quite uncomfortable - they feel far too cramped to me. That could be something to do with the beer gut, though...

That doesn't actually look bad for a chinky bike.

The Chinks are getting better. You should see some of the pit bikes they are knocking out at the moment!

My Grandad still refers to Japanese bikes as Jap Crap from back in the day when it was English Vs Japanese bikes.

The Chinks will get there eventually.

I know what you mean, mine's is the same.

He hates all things modern, and rides an old 50's enfield.

Chinese bikes are actually getting better, surprisingly.

I'm not convinced, the Japs have a different style of working. They have alot of pride in there work, they also made lots of advancements with there bikes that improved on the British bikes.

The Chinks seem to made the cheapest bike they can and flog them to unsuspecting novices. I can't see any heart or soul going into these bikes.

Technology & engineering is what let the Japanese down when they first started but they soon caught up.... The problem here is the chinese aren't trying to catch up, and they certainly have the technology in place to make some great stuff if they wanted to. Instead they're trying to knock 100 bikes out for 10 pence a piece and that's why they're total utter rubbish. Avoid at all costs Thumbs Down

Of course, there could be the odd manufacturer trying to do decent work, but are you willing to take that risk.. I've seen 4 chinese bikes fall apart so far and one while I was riding it. Seriously not worth it Thumbs Down

Never did find it Crying or Very sad

The Chinese are very good at making cheap copies that look like the real thing.

They have no designs, just copy copy copy and cut corners everywhere on quality to make it cheap.

Worth a punt - maybe when it's an MP3 player, I'd rather not bother when it's a vehicle. Neutral

Or you could spend that money on a second hand Japanese machine that in three years time won't need taking to the tip.

Chinese bikes are cheap for a reason, Japanese bikes hold their value for a reason.

I have friends who spend time in China and with Chinese ex pats. They say that the chinese copy EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING. They really aren't very good at original engineering thought, and have no sense of honour/dishonour.

The Japanese on the other hand are generally excellent at problem solving, and they have a sense of honour. They would be ashamed to release a product that was substandard, and have a very strong work ethic.

A friend of mine worked in Japan for a broadcast supplier for a while. He told the Japanese customer that his product needed a software update. The Japanese manager was shocked. He replied:

"In Japan we only release software that works."

That is not the philosophy of the Chinese. Its more a Pile 'em high sell 'em cheap philosophy.

True, if that's taken care of properly it should be fine.

Won't get past the 2 year mark if that Laughing

Will probably spend enough on registration, tax and the like and then theres maintenance too Laughing

Still, i wouldn't be complaining.

Even if this bike doesn't make it past two years, to pay that much for the use of a 250 for 2 years seems to make financial sense to me, but I can promise you that you won't be buying Chinese the next time.

Be sure to let us know what your extra costs are to get it on the road and any problems that come up Laughing
