4 strokes have less power in effect, however are more reliable, the sensible choice I would say for a novice.

I don't suggest paying too much for the first bike, especially if riding it on L plates.

Are you using the bike for commuting? Posing? or Hooning?

If you want reliability, go for the YBR you mentioned, or another option is the Honda CG, can pick them up cheap as chips.

A 2 stroke mixes 2 stroke oil and petrol to run (an extra £10 a month for the oil) they're smelly (nice smell) and loud, they will also accelerate faster then a 4 stroke

4 stroke only takes petrol, has good fuel consumption (Something like the ybr or cg have about 70-90mpg) Are very reliable and will plod or forever.

Usual speeds for a 4 stroke are 60-65 for something like a ybr

2 strokes can go faster, but that would probably mean they've been deristricted (illegal for a 125 cbt holder) and this will make them less reliable.

Hope this helps some

Very Happy

dont know what commuting, Posing or Hooning means Confused

i would be using the bike virturally everyday and i will have it for a few years maybe around 5 i will be going places such as matlock on the bike as well as going to and from work and collage. my gf's dad goes out on his bike with some of his mates and i would like to join them to.

would the 125 ybr be up for that amount of use? and if not can you suggest another model

thanks for the replies have helped alot and would be grateful if you would reply again

thanks Ethan Very Happy

The YRB125 should be perfectly suited to that kind of thing.

Commuting and posing I am sure you can work that out? If not try dictionary.com

Hooning refers to just for fun ; riding around on country roads + having a blast. Also a side reference to going quickly.

My Frieand has just recomended the Yamaha SR 125 for a starter bike.

Can you tell me how this measures up to the YBR 125

Thanks

the sr is a bit like a suzuki GN 125, its a good reliable bike. my mate did his cbt on one years ago. you can usually judge a sturdy bulletproof bike by the fact that if a training school uses it then itll be rugged tough and last years as the learner bikes take quite a beating. I have just downsized from a 600 to a cg 125 and i love it. i love the old style kickstart 125's such as the cg. so easy to ride, maintain and itll last you a lifetime. ive seen a cg 125 with 94k miles on it and it still ran like it was new. you cant go wrong with a cg. and the older ones are much better looking Laughing
