Old bike + high revs

I intend to do my test soonish and am hopefully looking for...say... a CBR600, now.... if said CBR is 15 years old and has done 20k miles, is this CBR going to like me taking it into the redline(often)? or is it going to tell me to fuck off and go pop? i very much doubt i'd have much service history behind it, and it'd have to be taken care of by myself when bought, but how robust are bike engines?

Give me one good reason why you want to redline your bike "often"....

Frequent redlining of any bike doesn't do the engine any good, no matter how bulletproof they are.

If you redline it, redline it in moderation, or not at all.

Try riding an 06 R6, that thing needed to be redline'd everywhere to get it to move!

Mine's 13 years old with 36,500 miles on it and the engine feels fine, there's plenty around with double that mileage and I never worry about it's reliability (unlike with my other bike).

I have no problem redlining it, though I don't all that often as you normally don't need that much power on the road. I've been getting bored of it for road use and was thinking of doing trackdays on it; never thought for a second that the engine wouldn't take the abuse, more worried about affording the tyres and brake discs and pads etc.

It's sort of for sale (still undecided so not advertised it anywhere else yet), local to you too as I'm in Cambs so PM me if you want to have a look

I dont really think that the age of the motor has anything to do with how reliable it is, more about how its been ran/looked after in the past.

My 06 600 has just clocked over 26k and it still gets a thrashing regularly with no problems over than a little bit of a rattle (got to check the CCT)

I would say as long as said motor has been well serviced and warmed up properly before some abuse you shouldn't experience any problems.

So long as the engine is running properly, ie. no oil starvation or other horrible problems, what difference does I actually make?

Surely there is no inbetween ground?

Under the redline its fine, past that, and things go bang. So long as your not constantly bouncing it off the limiter, what difference does it make?

Or have i got the wrong end of the stick?

CBR600 1997 model 50k miles and still running strong, really have nothing to worry about, just do the oil changes when needed

My engine's done 68,000-odd miles and shows now signs of stopping yet.

I don't abuse it that much though.

I wouldn't say his clocks are fucked, sounds reasonable to me.

Top speed of these is what, 155mph or something? I'd bet that would be at least 170 on most speedos....although it would be over 300mph on an RS50s clocks

My CBR is a 1994 and it hit's the limiter every fucking day.

That's why i chose it as my stunt bike, as it LOVES the abuse, it can handle the abuse, and the steel subframe means it loves to scrape tail aswell =P

Hi

If cared for reasonably it will be fine. I red line engines pretty regularly (use the rev range and keep it smooth round roundabouts rather than upsetting things trying to change gear), car and bike, irrespective of age.
