as im off doing Lands End to John O Groats on the 31st, im thinking off trying to slap my Navman or buy a cheap used Garmin on my 1991 Gixer.

the ram mounts dont look like they will fit to well on clip ons as only a tiny bit of exposed bar between the clutch lever and grip.

anyone made something up, also thinking of puting it in a map pocket on a tank bag but guess it will be hard to see when rideing

open to ideas? my gps is the Navman F20, but theres a few cheap older Garmins on ebay such as the street pilot iii.

have seen this but again think it will be hard to see on a sports bike, but guess it will do if all else fails

Why not use a map? Will fit in top of tank bag and be completely visible and so much cheaper, easier and better IMO. Satnavs are for navigating towns and cities to find specific addresses, don't see need for one on a trip from Lands End to John O'Groats.

I pop my satnav (Garmin Nuvi) in my tank bag/map bag and it's fine. I can see it ok at junctions and hear it if it's on loudest setting. I'm with Phoenix on this one though, as I much prefer the map, until it gets to the fiddly in-town bits like finding accommodation.

You're going to be stopping every now and again anyway for a stretch, breather and to admire the views, so refresh yourself with map directions during those breaks.

There is a cycling handlebar fixing advertised for the satnav I have and I did wonder whether it would work on the SV, but haven't had the need to try it yet, so can't offer anything on that, I'm afraid.

Bendy had a fork-mount kit for her big Garmin - it used the 'Ram' mount ball joint style system.
Had a similar mount which I used on my race bikes for a veypor dash/data recorder system.

I just use tankbag with map pocket. I can see it most of the time except when the sunshines on it, in which case I use my left hand to shield it.

Also have headphones plugged in. (although now I have a Scala Rider Q2)

yeah should just use the map, to be honest theres a group of us going so i wont be leading the group, but coming home i may be on my own and will be doing a few over night stops but dont no were yet.

just though the satnav would be handy as can put hotel/camp address in if get lost or held up etc. would take a map to just incase.

suppose i should just stick my Navam in a tank bag as that will do for what i need on this trip, but would like to do some Euro trips in the near future so will fit up proper gps system. would like the new Garmin model just for bikes...

had a little play with my Navman F20 and standard screen mount, was easy to mount with a nut and bolt fitted through the hole in the top yoke nut and drilled a small hole in the screen mount, i also fitted a ciggy lighter electrical point to charge it and mobile's etc on trips. ive put a water proof bag over the saynave held on with elastic bands.

will do for my trip next week and ill sort a Garmin out when i get back.

have a look at the range of rammounts...

https://www.ram-mount.com/

They do a few different options I quite like the one which fits onto your brake reservoir.

I just stuck mine on using the normal Navman suction cup. Done allot of mileage and it has never come off. Now if you have a double bubble fitted, it might be a problem Smile

A little trailer trash.

Not sure I'd trust the suction cup, hence the the duck tape for now.

I done just over 9,000 miles around Europe in all sorts or conditions. It never came off once, that suction cup will take the screen off with it before falls off. Again it depends on the curvature of your windscreen.

The TRX seems to have quite a flattish screen unlike the double bubble on the 7 so may be worth a go. The little catch on the sucker does give quite a adhesion and would be better suited and out of the rain.

Its worth a go on the recommendation alone.

Indeed, as long as your doing over 20mph the gps won't get wet. I drove through a pretty bad storm with that set-up and there where only a few rain drops on the screen. Also if you are relying on the suction cup, don't lick it like you would on a regular one. I've noticed it loses all grip and slides around.

GPS has a speedo so you don't really need to.

My old Streetpilot completely blocked the clocks on the CBR.

Couldn't stand that, I have enough trouble trying to see my speed on the stupid clocks on the busa, let alone 5mm high things on the GPS.

I wish I had a big digital speedo like the real fast bikes Mr. Green

Depends on the GPS, some have quite a big speed display. Never bothered me anyway, I don't look at the speedo much.

This was my old setup, many years ago.

This is the current one - much nicer.

Nope.

It is too curved to go in the centre of the screen but would stick on the outer edges near the mirrors. It stayed like that for a few minutes, wheeled the bike out of the garage and then it fell off.

The little clamp for the i3 does clamp round the mirror stalk so may have a go mounting it there, the wind rushing past the fairing may move it quite a bit though?

Tried the suction cup on the screen of my Bandit, but the screen is too curved.
It will sucker onto the rev counter glass though, you can still see the left half of the rev counter and the speedo is unobstructed.
Or the sucker cup will stick to my tank, i tried really hard to get it to come unstuck but it wouldn't budge.

I used the suction cup from devon the bristol and it was fine. I was bricking it though because it was my parents.

Wouldn't fit on my screen though because I have a double bubble one. Stuck it to my speedo.
