Bike Delivery?

Just bought a new project bike online, planning to go and collect it - only the van i've used before is now unavailable (Typical).

I've had a look around at bike courier/transport companies and the prices seem to vary. I've found two places that do collection and delivery anywhere in the UK at £140 and £99 respectively (MotorcycleDeliveryuk.co.uk and CBT.uk.com - the latter having no website as such...)

Question is, has anyone used them, or anyone else to transport their bikes? I'm not bothered about speed of delivery - as long as it turns up... but a price around £100 for delivery from Hertfordshire to Plymouth seems good to me.

Thoughts or experiences?

Subsequently also found these two companies offering it. Thing is, £70 seems dubiously cheap to me...

Listen mate,

As long as you/they have the right gear to strap the bike down and the price is good then there aint really anything to worry about.

I am assuming u will be going with them for the trip though.

Well this is the point. All of these bike courier companies are based london/central england - i'm in plymouth. It'd be pointless me driving all the way to Herts just to see something loaded onto a van - i may as well hire a trailer and do it myself (£35 a day, plus fuel for 244 miles each way at 35mpg approx comes to about £120, except i don't have a car with a tow-bar, so its borrow that from mate, plus dayinsure...), and thats a day driving where i could be doing other things.

So as the seller has already sent me the V5, i was looking for a trusted courier to just pick it up from the seller, not nick it on the way down (Quite why they'd want to once they'd seen it though is a fair point), and deliver it to my house.

got RAC cover? let me tell you a little story...

i bought a VFR400 a few months back for £400, that was in northampton (i'm also from plymouth) carrying only my bike jacket, gloves and lid.

I got the bus to northampton, then realised ''shit, the bus stops 20 miles from where i need to be''. que making a mobile phone BCF post asking for a lift...

to top it all off, the bus stopped at heathrow for a transfer, then carried on to northampton...
the 707 bus was scheduled for about 2:30pm, so i go out at 2:30pm and see the 707 bus pulling away.

it had one of those knobbish bus drivers that sees you and doesnt stop. so this pissed me off a little.
luckily, buses have very little choice other than waiting at junctions to leave bus depots... so i took this oppertunity to stand in front of the bus and refuse to move until he let me on.

this carried on for a good 10 minutes before the police came and told me they'd arrest me if i didnt move.

needless to say... on returning to the bus depot, low and behold, there was a 707 bus waiting there.
turns out one 707 bus goes to gatwick, the other goes to northampton, and they both leave within 10 minutes of eachother...

so i sat very quietly for the rest of the trip.

whilst cowering in embarassment, the shaggy D A answered my prayers via my thread and gave me a lift to the bikes location.

so this £400 is for a bike that didnt run, had no tax, MOT or insurance, had a cracked, weeping clutch cover and was like 300 miles from home.

so i pushed the bike a mile or so down the road from the guys house (with seized brakes. good times), then waited until about 6pm before making the call... (reason being, theres a chance they would just take me to the nearest bike garage).

''Hi, RAC? yeah. i've had a little accident...''

''Ok, where are you? what damage? is the bike insured?''

so they send out a roadside recovery, who suggested a chemical metal fix to get me home.

so i start to panic a little, and tell him that going 300 miles on chemical metal could very well seize my engine if it leaks without my knowing...

thankfully, the guy agreed...

so at around 8pm, my journey began. from northampton to plymouth, getting home at about 2am,.

the plan is perfect, if the bike is taxed and tested, but you have to be VERY lucky (like me in this case) to get away with it otherwise.

moral: if you have the cover, use and abuse it.

not sure whether the rest of the bus would agree, possibly a mix between let the fucker on and run the fucker over !!

hi,
i've used scott wood a few times & hes very reliable.
advetises on ebay as various companies, sw- express being one of them.
also used alpha couriers, also on ebay, very nice bloke, cheap & very quick.
all of these were for bikes from England up to central Scotland, the furthest being Southampton.

i dunno about them ones you said but i think ebay have a couple off class ads with them if you have a look i used one before, edinburgh to cornwall for only £99 which to me being in edinburgh was a very good price

hi,
thats the sort of prices i paid.(£140 from plymoth to stirling & £90 from stafford to stirling)
they start at south of england & work their way up, picking up bikes & dropping them off on the way.
looks like a good money maker for them.
i was making a coffee for the driver, & he told me he had picked up & dropped off 16 bikes on the way to me!
& he had a mint rg500 in the back of the van, along with 2 bandits, & a trailer with a dt125 & some other trailie!
& he reckoned he was going back down with a van full!
at a ton a pop, thats .... a few quid, lol
