Hey guys.

Been playing piano for about 10 or so years now, and want to learn some decent songs....

Not interested in playing any of the new stuff, that's what the guitar is for.

So i know how to play the moonlight sonata, raindrop prelude, currently learning 'the heart asks pleasure first (theme from 'the piano') and quite a few more that i won't bother naming Laughing

So, any decent classis songs i should learn?

Want to learn some Joplin stuff but it's pretty hard so will take a while Shocked

Hi

I recently got into the piano after discovering you could get 'digital pianos' with weighted keys. Never knew such things existed!!!!

I tried to follow some structured lesson programme but soon got bored of it and just went out on my own. I'm shit but I'm happy with that at the moment.

I've had quite a few acoustic pianos - They sound a hell of a lot better but cost too much to keep tuning them and take up too much space.

I've settled with a digital one...

I quite like that Thinking

Lovely piece that - So, I presume you're a self taught grade 8 player?

What digital piano do you have?

Got any tips for learning? The piano means a huge amount to me - I'd choose it over bikes any day of the week. But I just need help/guidance on sticking to some sort of structured learning programme.

Nope, i passed my grade 5....

Not really interested in grades tbh.

Getting lessons but just half an hour a week to help me with some pieces i get stuck on.

I have a yamaha arius YDP-140.

Learning wise... I'd say just sit with a piece, and play it from the start...

When you get stuck, work on that part each hand spereately then together and see if you can play it better.

Like me, if you can play the first few pages of a piece pretty much perfectly, then when you sit down, just start from where you get stuck.

That's a fair bit beyond my capacbilities I can tell you that now. Laughing

A very nice piece though. I'm always finding piano pieces in films that I must have and download the sheet music. Can't play any of them yet but one day....one day. Laughing

Im only grade 4/5 and play grade 8 stuff Laughing it's all about practice and the need to WANT to learn them.

I learned all the stuff from Halo3 Laughing just because i liked the piano parts.

I used to look up youtube when i was in the mood for learning something new,. I cant read notes so i watch people play and listen thats how I learn. Look up song names and you are bound to find someones version of how to play it. Thumbs Up
I make up my own stuff now manly.

I really need my piano tuned it sounds bad.
I am apparently related to some Irish rock star that died of drugs only my gran never told me who it was before she died. Crying or Very sad

Have you thought about trying out some Philip Glass?

Minimalist as fuck.
But beautiful.

He does lots of different stuff, but Metamorphosis is a lovely piano piece.

Totally agree, Metamorphosis is fantastic. There is a video on youtube of a lady that plays it.

Nowt wrong with that. (I used to like playing Duke nuke 'em on guitar) A good way of practising music is to play while the TV is on. Theme songs, adverts etc make good practice as they're are hundreds of tunes on the TV everyday. Helps tune the ear. (Although you're probably beyond that now Laughing).

I like piano music but don't have the coordination for it.

Yeah, i learn a lot of stuff by ear... Saves time reading sheet music and trying to get it to sound right, just play it over and over again with the music and try to get it bang on, then read the sheet music and sort out anything i have wrong Thumbs Up

Helps a lot when i know what it should sound like.

One of my favourites is Prokoviev's Romeo and Juliet Suite, there's a brilliant arrangement for piano Thumbs Up The Montegues and Capulets is great for letting off steam.
