This moan is from an old fart, old school biker with 35 years on the road ( not born again ) all weathers no car etc. Here's the gripe - why the hell do these spotty teenage kids ride with no gloves jacket boots etc. They think their COOL ( don't get me started on that word) ! Whatever that is ? I have fallen off my pushbike as a kid several times and had gravel rash and it f**ing hurts. 30 - 50 mph on scooters is going to give them a stump. Why don't these twats realise this ? Every time I see them hooning around I cringe knowing laws of averages one of them so called COOL kids is going to be hurt bad. I am from the fizzy era and we hooned around like twats too but at least we had knackered leathers and boots and gloves. We would thrash 1/2 mile up road and back and chat about who overtook who etc, oops I am waffling now. For goodness sake any who read this spread the word to those spotty teenagers where ever you go to wear some real gear and don't lose your fingers or hands !!

There we go I feel better now - BCF keep up the good work. Smile

AND................................................................

BREATHE!

So what if people don't wear full gear all the time? It's their choice. The youngsters will be preached to about it on their CBT and told what happens to their bodies if they don't wear it. After that, it's up to them (and their budget of course).

Common point raised, and no doubt will be raised again before too long. Best bet, just give them a nudge from the side whilst riding, help speed up the learning process. Wink

P.S., Just a joke, I don't actually go around knocking chavs from their steeds, despite a burning desire to do so!

As long as it's not you they are hurting then frankly it's none of your concern what they wear. Why are people so preoccupied with everybody else's health and safety these days ?
If they want to tear off a limb's worth of skin then good luck to them.

Yeah.. i see plenty of these about, in their obviously armour trackies with legs parallel to their arms (why?)

I always go out with atleast gloves and jacket, always wear gloves.. i kinda feel vunerable without them..

Also, i hate the gutter riding ped's, they're not chavs, wear all the right gear.. but arnt that confident and ride along in the hard shoulder bit.. then get cars overtaking them within an Inch of their handle bars..

There's a great poster in the entrance to Thunder Road cafe.

Can't recall the exact details, but it showed the state a guy's hands who had been wearing gloves who happend to come off at 80mph, not a mark on him.

Beneath that was a scooter boys off at 18mph with no gloves, his hands were shredded.

Bit of a no brainer really

Yea, what about all the road cyclists doing similar speeds?
Do they not know that by riding without full leathers could do to them?

While we're there, a massive number of pedestrians lives could be saved if they were just to wear helmets, with so many being killed and seriously injured.

Then there's also the question of why people don't use five point harnesses and helmets in cars, when it has been proved that a large number of unnecessary injuries and deaths would be saved if people did so.

A lot of people would have the same rant about people like you (and me) who ride motorbikes at all. Fucking dangerous, why do they do it, do they think it's cool? Have they not seen the injuries you can get?

Riding a motorbike wearing full gear is still more dangerous than driving a car so why do you do it?

Yep your right there mate you are a moaning old twat, let them if they want and we've all done it from time to time, in the 70' I used to ride to my girlfriends on a c90 with a tweed jacket and my platform shoes ( thats what people wore then ) and I came off from time to time going cross country and I preach about wearing gear to folk but I have when its been really hot wore a t-shirt, jeans, gloves and lid but take it easy though I do remember about 6 or 7 years ago fleeing passed a bunch of bikers doing about a ton in the gear Ive just mentioned and they looked at me like I was mad but I was late for an appointment, we have to keep the nursing staff in employment

I passed my bike test in a suit with no gloves and ordinary shoes. First time pass and never got lecturerd once on how un cool I was.

I ride a trike wearing just jeans and a t shirt if the weather is good enough (no helmet).

I only wear the full gear if going out for a 'spirited' ride on the busa. Other than that its jeans, jacket gloves. I must be cool Laughing

These types of thread are repeatitive here and are growing tiresome. I cant even be bothered to say they are twats and bla bla. Anyone who isnt sensible enough to wear gear probably deserves to fall off just to see what would happen without gear. Its not your problem, just ride on and dont even nod at them! I see it all the time, its not cool looking. And most of all its not my skin or life.

I did my CBT and all my lessons in helmet, jacket and gloves from the bike school - jeans and trainers otherwise.

When I first started I seldom wore ally my gear unless the weather was bad (just jeans and normal boots) but once I got used to wearing it I felt vulnerable without it and now won't go without.
