I have just walked out to my bike and I appear to have an oil leak. The roads are wet and there is a large-ish rainbow-effect puddle lying under the bike. I have had a wee look for myself but cannot find the source of the problem.

However there is a slight oily gunk lying on the belly side of the fairing so I assume it is getting onto there, running down the plastic and then being caught due to the cup-like shape of the underside.

I have checked the oil level and it seems to be OK, and the oil-warning light on my dash hasn't come on either.

I was wondering if it is anything to worry about ? - - - Since I have heard that there are hoses connected to the engine which sometimes spew out excess oil when required.

See pic -

That is a picture of the main hose, but there are another 2 of them.

On another note I should mention that today was the first time I have ever really let the engine go above average temperatures.
Usually my runs are all nation speed limit roads and motorways, but today (for the first time if I recall) I was stuck in loads of city (Edinburgh) traffic jams and getting stopped at every red light possible. When I looked at the temp guage it had 8 bars full (out of a possible 10).

Could this maybe have made some oil spurt out ?

I have washed the bike (I was going to do this anyway), and sat it on a dry patch of road. I will go out and have a check on it shortly and let you know if there has been anymore come out.

In the mean time I would really like some replies from anyone in the know Wink . My motorcycle knowledge (although improving) is still fairly limited compared to my car know-how.

I dont want my wee baby to die on me Crying or Very sad

Cheers for reading...

From the pictures I cant really say much, but how dirty is the front sprocket and surrounding areas? higher temps could make the collected lube runnier... oil leaks should be pretty easy to see unless it's tiny.

If its really dirty give it a clean and see if that helps. I know thats not what you wanted to hear but atleast it's taken an option out.

the bike will have overflow pipes to allow excess oil etc to just run off of it.
my bike leaked ALOT fuel and oil for about 2 weeks after i bought it ( unitll i got round to sorting it ) didnt do it no harm, so you should be ok for the moment untill you work out what it is.

if it is only a slight oil leak you may find in a day or so its not doing it anymore Confused bit odd i know, but sometimes thats the way it goes.

you can try throwing talcom powder all over it, leave it for a bit, and you can see that track of where the oil is leaking. but remmeber to clean everything properly afterwards!

good luck,
leigh.

It is a Hyosung.

It is a picture of my old GT125R. Just happen to have the picture handy. But my 650 has the same hose coming out of it.

UPDATE: Just came home from work (a full 16 hours after spotted the leak) and there is no more oil on the ground; or on the fairings for that matter either. Very Happy

Cheers for the advice, I'll still keep an eye on it but hopefully its sorted.
