ok i recently took my yamaha aerox to the garage for a mot i wanted new brake pads and my bike was pretty slow compared to some friends. my friend has a vespa s50 and he got it derestrcted and it went faster than mine. i bought mine second hand with a leo vince tt exhaust on. i took it to the garage hoping they could derestrict it or make it faster. he came back and said he changed the rollers and it was derestricted but was still slow. he said the exhaust was for the wrong bike and that was the reason so he ordered a bigone exhaust and put it on. so i was assuming instead of going 40 id be going around 50 on str8s but its going no faster than it did before i let it go in the garage. do i need to let exhaust pop or what can i do to make it go faster ? i can give a list of all the things done in a mot if that would help ?

I used to get 42mph out of mine.

Some scooters are faster than others, but the yamaha is good for tuning.
I recently helped a mate tune one to get a indicated 52mph from it, but he had spent around £180 on it.

You can gain a few mph by removing the standard air box and fitting a free flowing filter. You will need to jet it to around a 95.

The standard air box is really restrictive.

Don't think that you will be able to get silly speeds from a little 50cc scoot. It isn't going to happen without spending silly money.

it was doing 40 before on a flat but bout 60 downhill my speedo only goes to 50 but it goes way past it. it still does the same with the new right exhaust and new rollers and drive belt and a s/h drive face.

If you are getting 40 on the flat and a bit more down hill, it's probably all you are going to get.

Also, speedos over read.

thanks for your help.

yer maybe but the speedo shows 40 on flats then it goes way over 50 downhill so im assuming its doing at least 15mph faster downhill. my friends vespa s50 easily does 45 on flats with just a derestriction. any idea why this might be i thought the aerox was meant to be quick Confused ?

thanks for your help none the less its good that people try to help on this site.

If you want more speed you could fit a big bore kit and a gear up kit. With these mods you should see 60mph.

Some bikes are faster than others, but a lot of things can make them slower. If you are fairly heavy, your bike will struggle. The vespa engine may just be a better engine, or that your mate has some mods done that he isn't telling you about.

how much roughly would they cost to buy and get fitted ?

na i went with him tog et ti derestricted it was going bout 33mph according to my moped and then when we left he was doing about 45. so i dont think there is any mods hes not telling me about are try asking him. my other friend has spent about 600 quid with 70cc bore kit etc and he got 70mph on a straight using a tom tom to check the speed. so i might ask him for some advice.

is there any truth in the exhaust needing to pop? my mate reckons he got a new exhaust and he was only doing 30 for a couple of days then all of a sudden it strted to do 50 ? or is he just making it up.

He's making it up. New aftermarket exhausts are sometimes restricted as standard, but yours isn't as it does more than 30mph.

The bore kits are around £100 and the gear up kits are around £60. I don't know how much to fit them as i never take my bikes to garages, i do the work myself.

I would get a shop to fit them as you can easily mess it up if you don't know what you are doing and that would be expensive.
