How to polish a frame to a chrome finish

I want to polish a aluminium frame to a chrome finish. Something like this https://forum.caswellplating.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/2899 .I`ve looked everywhere there are no clear instructions.For the moment the frame is painted in silver. What compound I should use or what do I exactly have to do.Thank you

To get a mirror finish like that you will need to strip the paint off the frame to start with. You can use something like nitromors or you could use 400 grit wet and dry. Then you need to rub the frame down with finer grits of wet and dry to 1500 or 2000 to get a smooth finish. Then you need to give it a good polish with some metal polish to bring out the shine.

That is basically what you will have to do but a frame isnt for the faint hearted as it will take you hours and hours to get a good finish and will need regular polishing to keep that finish too.

if you laquar a polished frame it will turn to silver rather than mirror if you use enough laquar if you dont use enough it will crack polishing a frame is easy i did my frame and compleat wheels not just rims looked nice but a bastard to keep so i sold it..lol

you spend more time polishing the frame than riding it..

and you just cannot lacquer bare metal wont take hold.
if its a show bike do it but if going to use it forget just get it powder coated much better..last you yrs then.

just got mine powder coated and shot blasted not in that order for £60 think they under charged me ???

They may of undercharged you, but more than likely did a shit job

Normally costs far more than that for a pair of wheels.
