Hey all , sometime last year i purchased a frame of Bgay ,

It came with a log book so i filled it out put it in the envelope and put on top of the fire place ready to post.

Then the missus comes along and tidys up and since then its never been found.

Now too my point , this was about a year ago and the frame is still in the previous owners name.

Now ive come to use the frame to build a bike i need a log book?

How do i go about getting a log book for it? as its still in the previous owners name.

Thanks

Apply through the DVLA. They will contact the original owner to let him know someone is registering it in their name and give him an amount of time to reply. Assuming he ignores the letter they will send the log book to you in 4-6 weeks ( I think).

Its a fooking ball-ache!!

I`m in a similar situation where i dont have the logbook or plate. DVLA will go out their way to be unhelpful and relieve you of a good few quid. If youve got a mate in the police he can trace the reg no for you via the vin no.

Good luck bud Karma

Just been through this one myself Rolling Eyes
No reg plate, no V5 and VIN not coming up with any results on any of the check websites- including DVLA's database!

luckily I had a tax disk being held on by a bit of rust, that the numbers round the outside and bar code were in tact (rest was too far gone to de deciphered)

In this case bypass Swansea completely -as it REALLY is too complicated for them to deal with, go visit your local office (no way of talking to them on the phone unless you can get another dept. to get them to call you..which is a task no man should EVER try to attempt without first taking something off prescription to keep blood pressure under safe check...took a few hours of convincing a wheelclamping dept that I would be ringing back every time they put the phone down..till I got put through to my local office...IIRC it took 3 or 4 of these calls before they called me back to get rid of me)
Local office got me to post my forms and tax disk to them (not Swansea) and hey presto V5 in my name pops though letter box after a couple of weeks

If you know the reg number, your laughing, its a doddle- V62 filled in and a cheque (explained on the V62, downloadable from DVLA website) ....don't forget to declare SORN at the same time if its been off the road for a few years! (form also available from DVLA website)
Post off...Sit back and wait Smile

Regards
Rob

How did you get access to this? If you only have the VIN no. there is no way of checking is there. Its not on the DVLA website. Question

Ref looking up VIN to try and obtain reg number
I work in a scrappy - so got access to do lookups on certain websites
(which all proved fruitless- nothing came backfrom the VIN - as if the bike never exhisted)

When I /eventually/ spoke to the local office over the phone I gave them the VIN and they put it into their database and said "sorry its not coming up with anything!"
She tried several variations of what is stamped on the frame and on the tin plate rivetted to the downtube, but it just didn't seem to exhist

It was only my insisting that she lookup the tax disk number (round the upper edge) that managed to find the vehicle so not at all sure why the VIN didn't show up...V odd

In fact I was meaning to do another lookup on it to see if its "magically and mysteriously" now showing on the original databases I tried - now I have a V5 in my name and its on SORN
(the bike that DVLA forgot...LOL might get that stamped somewhere when she's up and done)

I guess these places must get their data from DVLA in the first place?

Regards
Rob
