replacing my clutch plates - costs

Hi All

I need to replace the clutch plates in my bike (Hyosung GT250) as they are slipping and not doing too well in general (involved wet clutch and normal car oil )

So I called my dealer (Bat Motorcycles)
and have been given the below costs (parts only)...

£7.28 - Clutch cover Gasket
£0.85 - Per Spring (5 required)
£16.48 - Per plate (5 required)

total - £126.97

The problem I have is the cost of the plates, even the parts woman thought they were really high!

there seems to be an extra 20odd quid on there (not concerned) but the cost of the plates is too high IMO


How much would people normally expect to pay for plates?

Also what is the posibility of matching plates from another bike? I would prefer not to use OEM ones but I cant find an aftermarket provider advertising plates for my bike

I would expect the would be another bike which happens to use the same size plates but how would I go about figuring it out?

Have you tried roughing the old plates up a bit and trying again?

BTW, it's £32 for a set of 7 Kyoto friction plates on my RD350, £50 for EBC ones.

how would I go about doing that? wet dry paper?

Wow.

Cost me like £25 to replace the clutch plates (fibre and metal) and oil on the TZR.

25 focking quid!!!!! damn it!!!!

I'm not sure roughing them up will help much, I ran the bike with 10/40 standard car oil in it for about 3 months until I realised what I had done

So I'm guessing the car oil has probably penetrated and soaked into the plates so even if I did send them down it would still be focked ???


If I pulled them out and measured them how could I match them up to another bike? I cant find measurements for plates anywhere

Have you tried changing the oil back. Sometimes it'll cure it if the slippage was down to the oil.

have been running on castrol gps for a couple of months now but recently it has got slightly worse
I think I have burnt them a bit when having silly moments

I am going to get prices from another dealer tomorrow so if the price is right then I will swap them for new oem ones then somehow match the old ones I take out
