Just been on an Aprilia MX, my first time on a 125 2 stroke, after having had my Yamaha R125 for about 10 months and fuck! it flies on acceleration and down the bypass.
I know alot of you will be like, ah well its just a 125, but you've gotta admit, its so much power from such a little engine

I had one chasing me yesterday down some twisties and then up a dual carriage way an he was keeping up with me pretty well.

My mate also had one when I had my RS125 and his couldn't keep up with me on straights at all? Even though he said it has the same engine as an RS125?

A) Now you see why people don't think paying loads of money for a 4 stroke is a good idea.
B) Now get a go on a KTM125EXC and see what an actually powerful 125 feels like Wink.
So, no, I don't have to agree that it's a lot of power from a little engine!

Note that the wind resistance on the MX is going to be much worse than the RS, so it will be a fair bit slower as the speed goes up.

hi,
i agree with the above.
the aprillia is not really designed for out & out off-roading, though it copes quite well with green laning to which its more suited.
the ktm is sure to be a fair bit lighter & geared for off road use & im sure it wouldnt be up to much for commuting, which the mx is quite suitable for.
the mx seems to be half way between an off road bike & a street bike.
not really sure you could class it as a trailie..
& yes the mx & rs share the same rotax 122 engine, just the mx is geared differently.
changing the sprockets on an mx, can give you fair bit higher top speed, without sacrificing too much acceleration.
& full derstricted mode, it can push out around 28bhp. Very Happy
cheers,
GAZ

You can't really compare the 'Priller to the KTM though,

Think you'll find that's exactly what I did Razz. Some people do use them as daily bikes on the road, though I wouldn't personally.
However, the basis for comparison was the OPs belief that the Aprilia made 'so much power', which I wouldn't really describe as accurate Smile.
Oh and I did consider suggesting a GP bike, but it's much more likely the OP would be able to get his hands on the EXC as I've seen quite a lot ridden by learners on the road (amusing, as they're not 33hp legal and wouldn't be even if they did make 33hp Smile .)

I do remember the first time I rode a 2 stroke 125 after having owned a 4 stroke and being very impressed. However, that doesn't mean the engine was that good or the bike it's self was actually fast.
