New Bikes 125cc What To Buy?

Hi to all i'm considering a buying a brand new bike 125cc and would be interested in some suggestions. My 2 main choices at this moment are the JINLUN 125-13 or the MIGELLI 125r both mint, although I have heard the JINLUN does have a bit of a rust problem due to the grade of chrome used, does anyone have any other good suggestions about viable possibilities.

Wow, speed fight now... then a jinlun... You must really like shit bikes, and if you did buy a brand new jinlun as soon as you start it the bike loses 60-80% of its value.

but what it really comes down to is...
they are still made in china.,

buy a japanese bike that has a few years of engineering and experience behind it,

the chinese will get there with their quality control.

The speedfight isn't mine as I said thats a mates, I have a little chinese Skyjet scooter 125cc thats done me ok, I had a look at some of the normal stuff the Aprilia's, Yamaha's and the Honda's, don't want a trials bike type, looking more at cruisers or race spec just looking for something with a bit more speed and oomph to it than what I've already got, also had a look at the YZFR's and over all fine if thats what you want but not for me, I am looking at these machines with a clinical eye and weighing up the pro's and cons of each machine as i find new one's, if I wasn't I'd already have gone and brought the first one i fancied and at some point may have regretted it later. With this in mind I would be thankful if you kept your suggestions rolling in as all will be considered.

Look at the link in my sig. That bike is a 56 plate and it's absolutely fooked.

Honestly, Chinese bikes are terrible at the moment.

And please don't tell me that you've found a brand that's different, because you haven't, you're either kidding yourself because of the low price tag, or you don't know much about them, which is fine, I'm just saying, don't do it. I've seen quite a few of my freinds say exactly that only to end up with a complete piece of crud.

You'd be better off buying second hand japanese if you can't stretch to a new one.

Also, that thing probably won't go much faster than your scooter. Even after giving mine a fairly major service it tops out at 50mph.

Agree with above, stay away from chinese at all costs.

Sporty 125's.. RS125 naturally, YZF-R125, CBR125, Hyosung GT125R

The latter 3 of those being 4-strokes, the YZF-R and GT125R are the most powerful at full learner legal power (14.6bhp) whereas the CBR125 is 11bhp.

GT125R has a full size frame and a more hefty weight than the others.

The Varadero is another powerful 125cc (4-stroke) but it's probably not what you are looking for.

I know they're both chinese but they were two bikes I liked, I haven't decided on any bike at the moment and haven't ruled out Japanese, As for money its not an issue but I am looking around the £3000-£4000 price tag, where possible cheaper. at the moment I'm not in a great rush as my present scooter is only 16 months old and I will probably keep it as well so my missus can learn on it.

Having bought a brand new NSR in 2001 (I think it was) I wouldn't buy another brand new one if I had to do it again. Cost about 4k and I sold it for 2k 3 years later. 2k for 3 years riding doesn't make sense to me. Get a full license and a used 400/500/600.

Don't buy a new 125, you won't own it long therefore the depreciation on it will knock a lot of the value. Most importantly do not buy a cheap Chinese 125; they're cheap for a reason... they're shit quality!!

Don't get a 4 stroke 125, it'll be much slower than a 2 stroke. Second hand NSR or RS, assuming you don't kill it the drop in value when you come to sell it won't be anywhere near the drop in value a new bike would have.

mate..at 3/4k... you really open up ALL doors on 125cc..
EASILY do your full test and fail about 5 times before you break that barrier
But you COULD buy a brand spanking new YZF..which is about as high as 4 stroke prices go, apart from the Varadero which is like 3499 OTR.. too expensive tbh.

The megelli if I remember rightly are built by a british company, they do use some chinese parts but I've heard some good things about them.

If you're in the market for a powerful 125 then it's really got to be either the Yamaha YZF-R or Hyosung GT-R for 4 strokes (at 14.6bhp) or NSR/RS for 2 strokes.

CBR is inbetween at 13hp and then you have the plod-along 125's at around 11hp like the CG, YBR, GS/GN and SR. I have a CG and it does me fine but you might want more power.

But if you do have that amount of money to blow, do a DAS course instead for £600 and spend the other £2400 on a nice 500/600cc

well i decided on a new one for the reason that I now want a bike and I don't really have the intention of moving off 125's as tempting as it is, but I do have mates with who I go for the occasional ride and I just want something with a bit more oomph than my scooter.

I've got a gt comet and they're fine, nice and stable unlike the cbr that feels like a bit of wind could take you off. And the speed is fine for a 125.

No idea why on earth you want to buy new though.

well I'm buying new cos I know the depreciation will make me cry if I sell after a couple of years lol and its just as I said before I don't intend moving off 125's so a new one it will be.

If somebody put a gun to my head and said 'buy a new 4-stroke 125' then I'd probably get a Suzuki RV125 Van Van. Far better however to buy one a couple of years old for half the price. They're pretty slow, but then so are all 4-stroke 125s.

As you're set on getting a new bike your choice of 2-strokes are rather limited, although with your budget you could afford to get something like an RS125 or Mito.

They do make a 16bhp 200cc version for some markets. Would be nice to have maybe 30-40bhp though.

No I intend to keep it and not move up cos as tempting as it is I know with size comes cost and I am happy on the 125 just wish for one with more oomph hence why I'm buying new. plus the money I'm willing to spend is a good reason not to just buy frivolously and regret it later by moving up in size.
