Please Help Advice Needed

Hi

Basically im 20 and 21 in Febuary, i have roughly 3 years bike/road experience, and have a CBT and Test Pass Certificate.

Basically i was originally told that if i sit my A2 Test and sucessfully pass, it would automatically unrestrict on my 21st (2 years on a restricted licence or 21, which ever comes first), now im being told this is not true, i have just purchased a 600RR which i was looking to have insured and ready to go on my 21st birthday.

I would rather have sat my test now instead of completing a DAS after my 21st birthday, could someone please give my some advice on what is correct?

You've 3 options
* Wait till your 21 and do Direct Access.
* Pass now and ride for 2 years restricted to 25kW
* Pass your test now then take the Accelerated Access course once your 21


"Accelerated access
Riders who reach the age of 21, while still within the two year period where they are restricted to maximum 25 kW machines, but who wish to ride larger bikes need to pass a further test on a motorcycle of at least 35 kW. They may practice on bikes over 25 kW under the same practice conditions for direct access riders. You will revert to learner status while practicing (on a motorcycle greater than 25 kW) although test failure will not affect your existing licence."

I've no idea how much the accelerated access would cost you though!

So i'd have a ring round see how much it'd cost to restrict your 600RR and how much accelerated access might cost. Or if you'd rather save the penny's and believe good things come to those who wait, DAS it

How long have you had your A2 licence? If you take the A2 test then you are restricted for two years no matter what age you are. Depending how long of a restriction period you have left, you may be better off just getting the 600RR restricted to 33bhp.

A2 = 2 years restriction, end of story. Just get your bike restricted to 33bhp for 2 years..it will still be shit hot!..and you dont have to tell anyone its restricted do you?

okay thanks for you responses just got a few more questions

do i have to complete my a2 licence before taking my direct access?

if not, having my a2 licence when sitting my DAS, will i have an advantage (smaller test or so?) or will it just be a regular test

My 600 might not be as "thrilling" as a 600RR, but I don't much care about the restrictors. What pishes me off about the A2 is if you fancy buying a cheap beater for winter/commuting, then you have to restrict that as well, at a fair cost usually.
Recently the 400 I had my eye on (FX400) couldn't be restricted according the garage, so I'm still with my 125.

continue with your cbt until your 21 imo, then do your DAS

ride your cbr no worrys about restricting etc!
