Well kids, last Saturday at 6.30 I jumped on the r1, complete with top box with some clothes in, a laptop and a folder of notes and headed north.
Day 1.
360miles of m6 and beyond to Dumbarton, landed about 11pm (after getting lost in Glasgow) within moments of having parked up a fight broke out in the car park, The R1 nearly got K.O'd but I did save it, rufty tutfy me ... well actualy that's not compltly true, I did stand guard but I was ready to dive out the way very quickly when reinforcments for both teams in the fight arrived and 2 vs 3 became 6 vs 5
Day 2
Wiggled my way up the side of Loch Lomond,

across to Fort William, a quick stop at 'the welly stop' in Tyndrum

which was full of new fireblades and a few other bikes, headed west, along the glencoe road (amazing!) had a play with some locals, pulled up and took a break near Oban ( I think)

got on a little metal bucket and floated across to the Ilse of Skye

Which cost £13, it was worth it just to watch the dolphins racing the bucket
a quick trip around the Ilse then onto the stop for the night, a cute B&B in a village called Dornie, possibly the most scenic pub I sat outside on the short trip, with the castle, lock and hilly things.

for those of you who've seen the BBC advert with the red balloon by the castle, aye, that be it, Eilean Donan Castle. B&B was £25 for the night, pub did an excellent pie, all good bar the midges who loved my ankles.
Day 3
Only a short day, mileage wise, headed to Inverness via lock ness as I needed to get my coursework done, found a very nice hotel and an even better pub with free Wifi to get the coursework half done - bugger.
Day 4
Left the top box at the hotel and set about a small mission, 350miles of very small roads (on the map atleast) headed for Ullapoole, up and along the north coast of Scotland, through the Highlands, was bloody freezing, the scenery was epic, the roads either very well surfaced or a bit patchy, huge deer risk in the wooded areas, with no fencing so that kept the speed down alot, stil the view were worth admiring. Sorry for lack of pictures but I was having too much fun riding the roads. Stopped in a small village for fuel (quite a scarce commodity in those parts) and met a couple on a pair of BMW's who took an exceptional shine to my r1 and it's various battle scars.
sunny but still very cold.

140miles after john O groats I was back, I fell off the bike, reitred to my room in Inverness, where I soaked my sore sore muscles in the bath for ages. 350+ miles is fine, infact the most I've done in a day is 600, but not at 40mph in the freezing highlands
Day 5
Headed back home as of today, mostly A9 and that glencoe road again (it was worth doing 10 times, let alone twice!), found another R1 rider who was either a local rider or a suicidal visitor, was a good play
Day 6
Mission home today, back down the M6 due to me needing to be back home.
---------
So all in all, 1500miles from 6.30 saturday to 6.30 thursdya afternoon,
one tired but happy Simple, having ridden in france, germany, denmark and Cyprus, I think Scotland is reet up there for the quality of the roads and the variety, fast flowing stuff, roads that wind their way up mountain sides, little niggly roads, 3inch deep stone chippings for a mile and beautiful fresh tarmac for miles and miles.
