Long story short, an old housemate set all the router etc up before I moved in, I need to fuck about with the settings but he can't remember the username and password.

How is the virgin broadband actually setup, it's a bit of a weird setup with the router plugging straight into the tv box via ethernet cable. If I restore factory settings to the router is it just a case of plug the router into the box and it'll detect the settings?

Or is there settings somewhere that I'd need to put in?

Call Virgin they would know. My router comes out of a Virgin modem and it set itself up.

As chris said, give virgin a call. I actually thought virgin made the whole internet through the tv box redundant as they could only get sub 8Mb speeds through it :-S. Mine comes from the same line as the tv but has a splitter which then goes to the tv and a seperate virgin cable modem which then goes to my router.

Username : Virgin
Password : Password

That's what is was for me when I first got mine. If you need to mess with the settings and that's not it hold the reset button on the back for 20/30 seconds and it will go back to the default username and password Smile

You should be able to reset the router by holding down the reset button for a certain amount of time, as already said.

Once this is done you can mess with the settings by plugging a computer directly in to the router by ethernet cable. Next open up a web browser and type in the IP address of the router. This is 90% of the time 192.168.0.1, but I don't know about virgin routers. To find out for sure you have to go in to your network settings and find the IP4 internet gateway address (will normally be your DNS gateway as well).

Once you're finally at the web interface of the router it will ask you for a standard admin username and password to proceed. If you don't know this then this is the best time to call virgin as they will be able to help you so much more easily from this point onwards.

When inside the settings you can change all the relevant stuff you might need to change to get the thing actually connected back to the internet again and wireless passwords etc.
