Am i aloud to park on the pavement ???

Hi can anyone help ?

I parked my bike outside the local shopping centre on monday (ON THE PAVEMENT) Some old woman on a mobility scooter decided she would try and squeeze through the the gap in between the bike and the bollard crashed into my exhaust and pulled my bike over lots of damage can anyone help :cry:

erm...within reason.
Kinda swings some ways some places, and others everywhere else.
Someone on here got a ticket for parking on a path..which was a bit of an arsehole thing to do..it wasnt in the way or anything.

Round here, i park pretty much everywhere but the path, way too narrow, but say in town, i do..lamp posts are "chain-to" items
If possible, get to a decent bike parking place OR bicycle parking with those weird rails, most people in towns dont care.. but again, you could have a knob of a warden around there

You can only park on the pavement if the vehicle is not causing an obstruction. Clearly you were causing an obstruction else the old lady wouldn't have knocked the bike over.

My mate Tex has one, I've seen him ride it up the middle of Fulham Palace Road, whilst wearing a cowboy hat, the old coot. It's got a fooking great eagle on the front, if someone fell on it, they'd do themself a proper damage.

Well you live and learn hey, the fault as far as the law is concerned is yours, if you park on the kerb the exhaust could be hot and a small child burns themselves on it, a blind person could injure themselves on it, a mother with a pram would have to go on to the road to pass which is a danger to her and her child, common sense really is to make sure there is plenty of room to pass and your pipes are against the wall and even at that you could still get a ticket depending on the reason for being there, who you are ( shop owner, currier ect ) and the mood of the police/traffic warden

I don't think the legal 'fault' is his. Him parking on the pavement is a separate offence. Park in front of some one's drive and you're in the wrong, but if they drive into your vehicle, you can still claim.
However, trying to sue someone on a mobility scooter I can see causing all sorts of problems. The fact he suggests they had to 'squeeze past', rather than them intentionally going too close, does suggest that his actions aren't going to be looked upon favourably.

I think I have said this a few times.

In central London you cannot park on the pavement, wardens can also remove anything covering an identifying feature ie: numberplate (it is unclear if they can do this outside of London).

Outside of central London one can park on the pavement as long as it is not causing an 'obstruction', cars can also park on pavements but the criteria of no obstruction is a little more difficult to fulfill

you're probably not alllowed, whether you'd get a ticket depends on local plod/traffic wardens being there/being fussed.

as others have pointed out thats besides the point.

good luck trying to get anything out of the old biddy. she obviously wont have insurance so you'd have to try and make a claim yourself through the small claims court. you got her details? you got witnesses?
