Just a quick poll, how many of you iPhone owners out there have jailbroken them? If yes, what version of the phone and firmware was it?

iPhone 3GS 16 GB and 3.0

Wouldn't go near an iPhone if it wasn't for the dev team's magical jailbreak. Purplera1n is awesome too, he proved that the jailbreak process can be made very simple

Done it to my 3G, the current and last two firmwares (don't ask me version numbers)..

Pretty pointless really as the only app I (occasionally) use is Cycorder. I don't even bother with any Winterboard or SBsettings and such, more bother than they're worth.

Might get a wee video recorder eventually and just not have my iPhone jailbroken.. it's just a PITA if you ask me.

Pain in the arse? Jailbreaking an iPhone is literally 3 clicks if a mouse button.

Jailbroken successfully, I've also jailbroken other peoples 3G and 2G phones, all using Vista (if thats what you meant by O/S?).

It's nice to mod things using winterboard etc, but it's only useful if you have access to wifi, I'm not wireless so only bother messing with stuff when I'm at the missus house.

I only have a flutter to see whats out every now an then. I mainly did it in the first place to have a satnav on the phone should I ever need one, an sod payin £70.

Theres quite a few tasty guitar apps that are out there that are useful that I use.

The 5 icon springboard app is also great btw.

If i'd have bricked it I'd have just reported it lost and claimed on the insurance, simplez.

16GB iPhone 3G... I really see no benefit to jail breaking it. I'm very happy with everything it does.

Jailbreaking is only for those of us who like to fiddle about with our toys aka the geeks. I really dislike the iPhone's complete lack of customisibility, but I friggin' hate what some people do to the iPhone/iTouch once they jailbreak it. Anyway, here's some screenshots of my phone I took for another forum a while back:

Essential application, especially for saving battery life.

Suits me perfectly Looks a bit messy and squished but once I got used to it I can never go back. I went from about 7 screens to 3. Also got a password app to protect the mail app, facebook etc.

Done this to my Touch 32gb.
I'll never look back. I love the new 'Categories' app off Cydia.

It groups your apps into... well categories. Makes it a lot easier to use.

Not done mine, really didn't want to risk bricking it or doing anything bad to my shiney new toy!

Really tempted now to just customize hte way it looks. How does it affect apps and stuff you have installed? Do you still get app updates, or does it make stuff like that more difficult?

I'm REAL tempted!

Tribal_tiger, the way I done mine was using 'RedSn0w'. Very easy to do.

Google RedSn0w and download the .exe file.
If you would like to know how to get offical Apple Firewares... here is where I got mine from: https://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Now you can either upgrade your Iphone or jailbreak using your current firmware. If you'd like to keep your current firmware, this will be stored on your computer, which will have already been downloaded by Itunes.

Here's where mine is: C:\Users\'Your User Name'\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Enable hidden files to view that folder.

If you are updating; PLEASE update the Iphone using Itunes first! To do this; download the newest firmware, open Itunes and click on your Iphone. Then hold Shift and click 'Restore'. This will bring up a windows where you can select your newly downloaded fireware and restore it using that. Once this is done, you can use RedSn0w.

There are many different programs you can use to jailbreak. But from experiance of using a few, RedSn0w seems to be the best, it is also the only one that supports 3.0 firmware at the moment.

The rest of the process is all stated while doing this with RedSn0w.

Please remember, all Jailbroken Ipods or Iphones can be reversed by simply clicking 'Restore' in Itunes. It is that simple.

I know but there's usually a good thing or two in it worth having.. Doesn't affect anything if it isn't jailbroken; if it is you need to start over again basically - Maybe I'm just lazy.

Sat down to give this a crack, but my phone has just upgraded to 3.1! A lot of post I'm reading say that 3.1 is the jailbreaking kiss of death. Think I may leave it a while till 3.1 is sorted out.

Yup, you're screwed for the time being with 3.1. I'm sticking with 3.0 as long as I can. I've spent hours getting my phone the way I like it
