Having had a particularly arduous journey this morning (eight miles of filtering rather than the usual six) I get onto Chiswick High Road, having (slowly) passed a police car and several cyclists. I come to a set of lights that changed to red. The police car with three policeman in it pulls up into a lane that bears left. 10 seconds later about 5 cyclists come up to the light - which are red, and merrily continue on, over the red light! I look over to the police and say "Aren't you going to pull them". The driver just shrugged his shoulders and the other two just laughed!

It makes my blood boil! Evil or Very Mad

Similar story, the other day I saw a police car with a broken rhs rear light lamps etc

And what do the police keep saying they are clamping down on? Rolling Eyes vehicles with faulty lights/lamps etc etc

I was going to pull up next to them to let them know sarcastically, but remember 1) I had iridium visor 2) race can 3) rear tyre showing the wire things inside Laughing so thought I'd let them off with that one Wink

When I was 16 I got pulled for going down a hill too quickly on my bicycle!! It was a 30mph limit, I've no idea how fast I was going...

The copper gave me a right mouthful and said that if he wanted to them he could ban me from driving before I'd even got my licence!

Although the copper I had was obviously an arse the Highway code should be applicable to everyone on the road... Police

Slightly off topic but, even stranger - In Canada cars can turn right onto a road even if the light is red (if it's clear) and in Australia cars can turn at a junction even if the 'green man' is on - I've almost been run over all over the world!! Wink

They break an arm! In my Vespa days, I was riding down Shaftesbury Avenue in London when I had to stop fairly sharpish as a pedestrian jumps onto a zebra crossing. I feel a slight bump at the rear and turn round to see a bicycle courier on the floor writhing in agony. He hadn't see me stop and went crashing into me and landed awkwardly. My bike had the tiniest of scratches. I helped him to the side of the road and called an ambulance.

Hi

Traffic lights do legally apply to cyclists, and there is also the charge of cycling furiously.

Many cyclists do have insurance (although they may not realise it) through their household insurance.

All the best

Keith

A friend of mine once went through a red traffic light and nearly killed himself.

His excuse was, "I didn't realise traffic lights applied to cyclists".

Idiot! Rolling Eyes

according to the highway code book, its a £1000 fine for dangerous cycling, £100 fine for riding on the pavement, and you can be arrested for drink driving on a push bike
