Hi All

I need to strap a tent to the top of my top box for my trip next week, however I would really like to be able to open the bow while the tent stays on top.

I will secure it with bungees but I need some sort of tie down points. I have been searching for quite a while but cant find anything small enough to look proportionate.

All I keep finding are tie down points for vans etc which are huge.

What I would ideally like is something like this....

something that could screw in from the inside.

is there a particular name that these would come under?

Cheers!

Rich

2 bolts and 4 nuts.

Drill hole.
Put one nut on bolt about 10mm from the head.
Slot bolt in hole
put the other nut on from inside
tighten up
do other side.

washers recommended.

should give you enough to bungy to.

Makes sense Smile would prefer a hoop as it would be usefull for other bits as well.
but may well end up doing this Cheers!

I really need a d-ring the size on a helmet strap but mounted on some sort of fixing....

Maybe think haberdashery rather than hardware... the kinda things you'd use to attach a strap to a bag should be more like the right size and could be screwed / rivetted to the topbox.

bought small ones similar to what you want in B&Q for the same purpose

Fixed them to my top box with blind (pop) rivets

Well here is but a few ideas...

Get some strap webbing, fold it creating a U-shape, then stick a bolt through it with a washer on either side and then attach to the point on the bike of your choosing. Alternatively, buy some wire rope joiners and attach them to a point on the bike, or if you want them out of sight use them to grip some wire rope to the bike and create a hoop of wire rope. Wire rope is available by the meter in B&Q IIRC. Webbing strap can be bought there too, but wilkinsons or the like will likely have a set of straps for £1 or so, which probably works out a lot cheaper. The wire rope fixings aren't very long, so perhaps bolt on some chain with a washer, simpler too albeit not as subtle as wire rope.

Nice idea.
And no end cheaper than the racks that you can buy to go on top of the boxes...

Just hope the quick release system on the box is upto the extra drag, and does not decide to give while you are on the road.
