dont know the actual outcome i.e if he is ok etc but the road near where i work (Elland Rd, Elland, Halifax, WestYorkshire) has been closed off today due to a biker colliding with a fork lift truck

Hopefully he is ok but what i can tell from the road being shut all day i does not seem good

Roads are normally closed because of a fatally and investigations are then needed to be made to find the cause of the collision.

it not like he could have been doin much speed either as the pipe works are straight after a corner and he was on a 1970s norton, i reckon the forklift is at fault prob no mot, tax, license for road etc and with them using it to cross over the road the are not very fast for getting out of the way

There should be a warning sign ' plant crossing' so I suggest you guys in that area make sure a sign gets put up before another of us gets it, if it was in my area I most certainly would and now the company are feeling guilty they would go for the sign without quibble, good luck with it guys

Thats just an accident waiting to happen. Forklift truck crossing the road on SWL, after a blind bend? The backend of that truck must weight about 2tonne. The MD of the pipe company should be charged with corperate manslaughter.

RIP Buddy

Gosh I know that road so well, it is an open limit bit of road in-between 2 urban areas. (Elland & Brighouse).

Poor fella, lets wait for the facts to come, before we judge what has happened though.

RIP to the guy on the bike.

I work at the top of brookfoot (well, on west lane t'other side of southowram) and the traffic was madness.

The road isn't 'open limit', it used to be NSL but is now 50mph. There is very often cops with hair driers out in force and i believe they are thinking of putting cameras up.

Kenny - You can have a forklift truck on the road, it has to be road legal obviously but you can do upto (iirc) 4 'industrial' miles on the road without needing tax etc. The companies liability insurance will cover the forklift i would assume.

Our forklift at work has is a counter balance type and weighs nearer 5 tonne Shocked

Also, if its the corner that i think, it isn't exactly dangerous even if you are doing the speed limit. You have quite a lot of visiblity aswell.
