ok i need some help...here`s my situation:

Ive got a load of old tunes saved in my favourites that are on youtube but i want to get them onto a cassette (tape).

My TV`s linked to my stereo system and it has an aux input for a computer.....so if i plug my computer into the TV will i then be able to record the tunes from youtube???
not bothered about the visual/video recording.....just want the audio.

sorry if it`s a dumb question or one with an obvious answer but i`m not really upto speed with modern technology and gadgetry. Embarassed

I expect the audio quality would be quite bad on youtube, so why not get a better source to start with?

Also why mess about passing it through the TV, pass the audio strait from your pc to stereo.

If the music is for your car (i guess that's the only reason you prefer it on tape) it may just be easier to buy one of these:

The plug it into an ipod or what have you.

if i knew of somewhere better i would...but most of these tunes are quite rare and i can`t find them anywhere else.If i had to buy them it`d cost me an absolute fortune as most were on 12" vinyl anyway and not CD etc..

Not for the car.......i`ve got a gym in my garage and i just want some new "training music". .....so a cassette will be fine.

I`d love to get all these tracks onto a disc in perfect crystal clear stereo but doubt that`s possible.(for free)

thanks for your help.

Turning a youtube vid into an MP3 isn't that difficult.

If your not using it already install firefox. Then get an addon called download helper. With this you can download the flv.

Then it's just a matter of converting the flv into an mp3. There is many a free service out there for this.

Then you can burn them to a CD.

I bought two cables with a jack plug on one end and a two plug audio lead on the other. They connect the output of my soundcard to an input on my stereo amp and the "monitor" output of my stereo amp to my soundcard input.

So, my computer plays sound through one of the channels on my stereo via 200W floorstanding speakers (fuck yeah!) and anything I play on the stereo feeds into my soundcard.

That means if I play a 12" LP on my stereo, I can record it on the computer. It also means any sound I play on my computer (be it something on youtube, iplayer or whatever) gets fed back into the soundcard input. Probably looses some quality but it's a good quality amp so not loosing much.

I use a program called "audacity", which is an open source sound recording suite to record the sounds in real time, clean them up and divide them into tracks. I then save them as whatever sound file format I want. (these days I'm mostly using .FLAC, more to be obtuse than anything and because my hard drive isn't big enough to be using .WAV).

Fuck...i wish i understand half of what you`re saying Embarassed Laughing

I`ve got a propostion for you both (summy/stinkwheel):

How about i send you the links to the tracks i want and you get them onto discs for me?...i`ll pay you for your time,no worries about that.
We can discuss the price by PM if you`re up for it....and there`s no major rush to get it done either.

Interested????

If Summy or Stinkwheel are unable/unwilling to do it, I'll be able to get them onto whatever format you like - cassette tape, CD, audio file, DAT tape, MiniDisc.... (not trying to steal business, but giving you another option, should the others become unavailable). Thumbs Up
