i'm at a loss at the moment, always wanted to get a bike since a young age (im 28 now)
My cousin is into bikes big time and has had many over the years, but getting hold of him is a nightmare and im not sure he's the right one to go to for advice lol
whats ideal bike for a starter?
I'm not talking bout one thats going to cost mega bucks,
just for getting me to work basically

A Japanese 125cc 4 stroke engine based machine of course! Notable examples include the Honda CG or Yamaha YBR. Quintessential learner motorbicycles. 
If/when you do your CBT you'll most likely do it on one of the above bikes.

Most of this sounds pretty bad/wrong advice! 
Doing 2 CBT's seems pretty pointless and a waste of money for starters, and passing the A1 test means you can't ride bikes any bigger than 125cc at all (unless you fork out for another test), may as well at least go for the A2 test which opens up the options for bigger bikes (all be it restricted for a couple of years), or being over 21 the full A test is a possibility with Direct Access. Also if you wished you could do a CBT on an automatic at any age, age is irrelevant though obviously makes more sense to do it on a geared bike if you intend to ride geared bikes.

If you're not in any rush to get on the big bikes then I would do what Neil says (well this is actually the path I'm taking), you can pick up a decent 125 taxed and MOT'd for well under a grand, and they hold their re-sale value well. With other start up costs such as CBT, insurance and a bit of gear you can be on the road with something very reliable for around a grand in total. Do your CBT then ride it about on L's for few months or year then think about tests. |
