PostPosted: 01:22 - 15 Sep 2009    Post subject: Your "scariest" moment with police Reply with quote

Right, Saturday night was the single moment in my life when my balls where hanging around my ears.
I know I'm a dumb fuck for this, but I have: Kawasaki ZXR 750, no paperwork, no insurance, can't legally ride it for another 6 months, I have no ID or driver's license since my wallet was stolen.
4.30 in the morning on back roads where I'd been promised the police don't ever do alcohol checks.
I guess they were wrong. Coming out of a tunnel I see 4 squad cars and a full road block. My heart was racing, I was considering turning around and getting into a full blown chase but decided I wouldn't put my now ex through that. I pull up to the lady who starts checking the bike out. I was worried about the tail as I don't have rear indicators (it's legal here to use hand signals only)
She looks like she's gonna let me go, and suddenly says: Hey your MOT is expired! My life crashed, I thought she'll definitely tell me to get off now.
NOTHING. On your way mate.
I couldn't believe it!
There was no other traffic for miles. They would probably get fired if the ranks found out they didn't check my alcohol or anything.
Can't say I'd report it though Mr. Green
I'm not even gonna go into why I don't have paperwork or insurance but let's just say the Spanish are slightly problematic especially when you don't have your hard copy of the ID. Passport seems to mean fuck all here Confused
I don't know what would have happened to me but at the very least a couple of grand fine and possibly prison.
Any similar stories?

Well I assume this is Spain we are talking about? I can well believe they would be more lax over there.

Well it did expire less than 2 months ago. I guess they couldn't be arsed to check me out.
I have everything except the "permiso de circulacion" which they kept at the DMV until I bring my real ID which I don't have. I find it ridiculous that you can't legally do a name change without a Spanish ID Evil or Very Mad
For that reason I couldn't get insurance, because the bike isn't REALLY mine unless you look into it a bit. Like the guy who sold it could never claim I stole it, cause if you look deeper you'd find all the paperwork is done, but frozen.
Insurance would cost me 1000+ with the absolutely cheapest company. Not really worth it considering I'm off to the UK in just over a week.
That is however the first and last time I ride a bike illegally at night.
Daytime is "fine" as I obey speed limits and keep extra distance to really make sure not to have an accident. They never stop you here at daytime unless you give them a visible reason to.
Can't wait to get this off my shoulders when I leave.

You my friend, seem like a cock.

I pay a shit load for my insurance, because of people like you that don't have any.

If you hit a pedestrian and you have no insurance you ARE going to prison, and it would be deserved.

If you come to the UK and ride with no insurance, I hope you are knocked off your bike Middle Finger

If I was in the UK I wouldn't have to ride without insurance cause the British aren't completely incompetent.

Not being funny or anything, but riding without insurance is not "fine" wether its day or night.

at the end of the day, if you damage someone/ something else (say your ex had fell off the back at some speed) she would be left mullered and wouldnt be able to get compensation for her injuries.

then theres the fact that you would appropriately be done for no insurance, mot or whatever, like you say a massive fine and prison.

You got away with it once - learn from it and dont do it again!

i have 2 bikes sat in the garage - both of them uninsured. the gpz insurance has run out, and i have to wait until thursday before i can legally ride the falco because of my licence, it also gets insured that morning. wouldnt even consider riding without insurance unless i had to - for example if my mum died.

you know it makes sense Thumbs Up

I think what SamJL meant by that was:

Eres mi amigo, es un cochino.

Puedo pagar mucho por mi seguro, porque de personas como tú que no tienen ninguna.

Si usted golpea a un peatón y no tienes seguro de que va a la cárcel, y que sería merecido.

Si viene al Reino Unido y viajar sin seguro, espero que son tumbados fuera de su moto Middle Finger

If it helps.... Edit: and thanks for implying the spanish are better drivers than us brits. You're a true patriot.

First of all, nice going using the google translator or whatever. Not so impressive...
Second, when did I imply the Brits were worse drivers?
Third, I'm from Sweden, so I don't see how patriotism is a possibility in this thread.

Hi Svedebo, I have nothing against you Smile in fact I like your part of the world Thumbs Up

Secondly I like using google Rolling Eyes I enjoy doing so, so don't spoil my fun!

Thirdly I completely misread what you typed and thought you said:
"the British are completely incompetent",
when upon reflection it appears that what you actually said was:
"the British aren't completely incompetent". My mistake Laughing

Patriotism is often over-rated anyway. I'm hoping I can visit Sweden or Norway again for the third time this year soon Thumbs Up or even more I'd love to have the chance to ride some of the roads I've seen.

Edit: I should probably mention something about the actual topic! Even while riding like an absolute lunatic for hundreds of miles at a time on my 125 I've never been stopped by the police Cool I guess they normally have better things to do in my part of the world.

bellend ! why they fuck you riding it if your not insured ect this is also a bollocks story because a copper would of made you walk home if your mot had expired so i suppose if you have no licence no insurance no mot i guess you have no tax either

grow up and ride legally

You are wrong. There's plenty of cases where people have had no MOT and the police have been fine with letting them ride home.

Furthermore, can we presume you never do 31mph in a 30 limit? You've never ridden a push bike on the pavement?

Quote:

How do you work that out? Even if he was in the UK, how would he cause your insurance to be more?
There is only one type of person that causes insurance to go up* and that's that have accidents, whether they are insured or not.

*We could add a sub-category for those that make over-inflated claims, those that want tiny damage to mean their vehicle is written off, etc.

Laughing He got S59'd, so he's one to talk!!!

Svedbo, you metioned you couldn't believe they didn't check your alcohol. Would you have had anything to worry about there? Thinking

Wishing injury on someone is more despicable in my mind than riding without insurance.

Bbbuut.... surely it's fine to knock people off their bikes, providing you have insurance, that's perfectly moral, isn't it?

Nothing like those evil drunk uninsured people that don't hit anyone... who of course should be sent to some kind of concentration camp where they are put under semi-ethical torture!

I would have been fine if they breathalysed me, I reckon I would have had a 0.05 at the very most. (2 glasses of sangria over 4 hours)
But when they check you, they check everything no matter what alcohol level you have.

For me, it was when I was 16 and was on bail for intent to supply cannabis (load of bollocks but that's another story) and I got pulled on my SR50, was pretty stonned and had an ounze of weed in my pocket.

The officer had me in his car talking to me and I was chonged out my head, couldn't even talk properly, the stuff was in my right pocket and he's sat in the drivers seat an it was pretty strong, even I could smell it, I was sure when he found out I had been done for possession of it before he was going to search me if he hadn't already clocked I was stonned out my head.

When he did a check and found I had been arrested for possession before, he said, "You haven't got any on you now have you Jay?" My heart skipped a beat an I said, "No, course not, I'm not that stupid!" an he just laughed and basically said on your way.

Rolling Eyes

And you ride a TS50 which is as far removed from the definition of moped as it's possible to get, amirite?

So you're outside the terms of your licence and therefore uninsured, have a nice day you fucking hypocrite.

Back on topic.....

I have a criminal doppelgänger, a few times when out and about randoms have confused me for someone else. In town I've turned up with the missus at a club and had a royal welcome, VIP room free drinks everyone calling me sir. Guy in subway gave me free subs most of last year.
Anyway I left work (pub manager) bout 1am walking home, coppers drive past very slowly having a good old nose at me, late on a weeknight fair enough!
Gets further home and three armed response units screech round me, officers everywhere pointing guns and shouting me to get on the floor, handcuffed, stood up, got read my rights. "Forename surname I'm arresting you..etc" I said "I think your mistaken my Id is in my back pocket see for yourself" following a sort of "oh shit" moment from the coppers, I was dearrested and sent on my way. I just look very very similar to some maniac who runs one of the shithole estates apparently.
Brown trouser moment for sure.

I went past a police car coming towards me while I was riding at 70 in a 30. My mate hit my side and shouted "police!". I don't think they really bothered tbh but I didn't hang around to find out.
