Take the singer's nuts out of that vice, and I may like it. For now, though, I think it sounds like an alarming hybrid of U2 (meh) and Keane Sick

Very good band, downloaded the album last week after hearing about them. Good to see some genuine bands making decent music, unlike near enough every artist in the Top 40 who have their songs done for them on computer!

Thumbs Up

wandering off topic here... why is music made on a computer any less decent than music made on traditional instruments?
Pooters are just like instruments..R.I.R.O (rubbish in = rubbish out)
Sure, you can tighten up poorly played parts, maybe even tune a poor singer (Melodyne/Autotune) But you can't polish a turd....just sprinkle some talc on it.
And as for genuine...what is genuine? D'you mean a band that has been put together by some Producer/Manager compared to a group of mates getting together and touring the toilet circuit for years then breaking through.
It makes zilch difference how the band is formed or how they recorded. Whats important is the music, does it sound good now and will it sound good in the future.

Pat
Hope you paid for your download, otherwise they'll be awhile longer before they can afford to record again.

I wouldn't be surprised if various instrumental parts in that song have been replaced with MIDI programmed synth/sampler equivalents or replaced by session musicians. Happens a lot across loads of different genres.

The majority of music now goes through a computer, with various degrees of post production applied. It isn't just electronic genres or evil producers that completely process a track, even the bands who record themselves often like to bastardise their tracks too. Thumbs Up

Stick em in a room with acoustic instruments, a horn and a wax cylinder if you want authenticity. Cool

I mean rather than having all their music and lyrics written by someone else, and bands/artists with lyrics that make no sense such as Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas.

I just don't like the fact that it's so hard for people to break into the music industry mainly due to all these "Artists" who only perform what they are told to perform.

Of course Wink .

While I agree that some people can't write a song to save their life and are still famous, I don't completely hate the idea of it. The song writer may be brilliant but he doesn't have the voice to convey his ideas. So he gets some muppet who can sing to pull it off. Fair enough I guess.
And as for music made on a computer. I disagree that it's all garbage. Music isn't about how it's made, it's about how it makes you feel. If someone can take you on a trip for 5 minutes and make your hairs stand on end, who cares how he did it?

To say you're a young trendy model and have only just found out about these is worrying.

The album is out in the shops and has been for a while. Wink

Depends what music is created on computer, club music/trance and anything like that can only be done on computer obviously. It's the boy/girl groups that don't even have a band on stage with them when they do live performances.

Just annoys me really.

[Me in pedantic mode]
Kraftwerk never used a computer when they recorded Autobahn (possible blueprint for 4 to floor dance music)

At one time i too was jeffed-off with manufactured pop-pap. A singer miming to a tape. Rolling Eyes But as i said. If its good music its good enough for me. I'm not as precious about it as i used to be (Ex-Punk)
There's no such thing as crap music..it's just music you don't like.
A few big bands that i HATE (sorry..i mean dislike Smile )
Snow Patrol
Queen
U2
Coldplay
Radiohead
Artic Monkeys
Madonna
Oasis
...quitting now, before i get into my swing.
I know they've all produced great albums...there's just summat i don't get from them.

Pat
The most 'Real' artist i can think of is probably G.G Allin...and he was very very crappy Laughing

What you want, a list? Smile (sarky b'stard Pat) ... I don't expect to instantly get into some bands, sometimes it takes repeated listens to hook into something, and i hate missing out on some big named bands.
How can i explain without sounding daft or starting a stupid 'my choice of music is better than yours' thing........s'all subjective innit.
But i do have empathy. I can understand why people love Oasis (random choice) There's just something that doesn't click (a slight click after their 1st single then it left me) Same for Snow Patrol..saw them on the Uni circuit supporting Grandaddy and thought they were a pale imitation. But what do i know...Good job i'm not an A&R man.

Because whatever i say will be hypocritical. i.e i too love easy on the ear well performed songs made by people who are ...yawns....just like you and me. And therein is my problem with Coldplay...they aren't so-much boring...just uninspiring.

There ...you can finish your glare-ing now.

Pat
..Oh and my version of Coldplay would be....er nobody actually. Cos i have a 100% perfect choice in music.
