I know this has been thrashed to death, but I had this emailed to me, what do you think, worth a try?

Folks, got to be worth a shot.....nothing to lose and everything to gain.
We are going to hit close to 89p a litre by the summer. Want petrol prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew
we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at 77p -80p, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come
down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol!
And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!
I am sending this note to a; lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE Action: It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons (75p)Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso.
HELP GET PETROL PRICES DOWN TO A REASONABLE LEVEL.

Isn't it the government that makes exorbitant amounts of money by extorting outrageous taxes from us not the oil companies?

Something needs to be done about the taxation, not the price that the oil companies charge.

Sounds good in theory, but I dont think that many people will actually take any action. I only get my petrol from Jet so it wont affect me, but if I was buying from Esso (dont because the company dont care about the consequences of their actions) or BP (again dont because the owner of my local branch doesn't give a damn about his customers, and wastes most of their diesel by spraying it all over the forecourt) id give it a go. I really hope this works but to be honest people round here all use esso because its the only petrol station thats actually in the town that is half convienient, and I cant see them boycotting it even if they heard of this action. Will mention it to my friends and thanks for posting it, like it says we have nothing to lose.

I think the recent increases are the price of oil, not taxes. Confused So that is something we have to stop...

Taxes don't help and the oil 'crisis' in the middle east doesn't help either - but a good old price war wouldn't hurt...

I never buy at Esso, don't like their views on helping the environment (more like helping to destroy it) or the way they have Mr Bush wrapped round their finger...

Another cynic in the camp here........

Imagine if you worked for Total and you wanted to screw the opposition a little.....how about starting a chain-email asking people to boycott your two biggest rivals?

Secure in the knowledge that these things just don't pick up properly and that it'll only have a tiny effect, all you do is send a simple email out to ten people who then send it on to ten each......et voila, a free and easy way to give your rivals a little tap in their wallets.

Hi

Well around 75% of the cost of fuel is tax, only 25% or so actually pays for the fuel, distribution, petrol station profits (probably around 1~2p a litre). We have just about the cheapest petrol in Europe at pre tax prices, but our horrendous taxes make it the most expensive.

As to Esso and the environment, what do you want them to do? Do you think that the 0.6% of CO2 emisions (and CO2 is a fairly weak "global warming" gas compared to methane or even water vapour) that comes from vehicles are actually is actually going to have any real effect?

All the best

Keith

If I remember rightly BP made a profit of about £6 billion last year, so they may only make 1p a litre but they sell a hell of a lot of litres.
