long story short
old computer with loads of crap on it
wiped the disk and started from scratch.
loaded xp pro performance edition on (cheap oldish pc)
found all the drivers except one, which i thought would be relatively easy to find. a graphics card driver for the nVidia FX 5500 (Microsoft Edition????)
been on the nVidia website with no luck. downloaded what i thought were the appropriate ones but when i run the installer it says that no current hardware detected.
anyone know how i can find a driver that works (free). no real idea on the pc history as it isn't mine. i wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that it's using a non-standard windows installation and the install program won't actually recognise a non-standard windows xp?
thanks in advance

Have you tried the 'older' release 90 ones which is when they stopped supporting various models of chips? https://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/winxp_2k_93.71_uk.html

Edit: Might want to investigate putting a Linux distro (Ubuntu comes to mind) on a machine like this. Thumbs Up
