So after smashing my R6 and being bikeless for 2 weeks while i raised some money, i've finally got hold of my (probably temporary) replacement.

a KTM 400 LC4 1995 with 11000km on the clocks.

https://img32.imageshack.us/img32/4606/06092009054.jpg

https://img4.imageshack.us/img4/6048/rbhttphandler01o.jpg

its actually in really good condition, i was suprised.

got a bit worried when i came to pick it up, as there were some worrying symptoms.

first being emulsified oil, and the second being low coolant levels... head gasket? well i took the chance, and rode the 150 odd miles home with fresh oil and filter.

the coolant level didnt drop, and the oil didnt re-tea itsself.
result Thumbs Up must have been condensation as the guy said he only used it a few miles at a time.

only things i can possibly put wrong with it are the decompression lever does fuckall. but an easy fix.

also, when i got home, the mother yelled at me for a bit for riding across the lawn, up the bank and into the washing line.
its also a little gay, because i can only get it to pop up properly in first at the mo and work it through the gearbox to get any speed.

its enduro wheeled and tyred, with gearing to suit. so wringing its neck gets about 75-80mph. and you feel EVERY mph. picture that for about 3 hours sat at 60mph on a motorway.

i wont be able to walk for a few days.

i think the previous owner found out the hard way about the gear lever. its got one of those folding alloy ones, so shouldnt break any time soon.

as for riding it... its a commuter until my hand properly heals (which i think i broke again today, great)

after that, Landrake is about a 1 minute ride from my house, and then theres brixton track the other side of plymouth.

plus, every other lane is a green lane round here. hundreds of miles of woodland etc. so its perfect. i just need to get into it.

after 3 days i pretty much hate it though for general use. im a sportsbike rider. the wheelies are nice though, just so slow. i cant even go anywhere fast on it.

plus its stalled a few times getting used to it. thats a right bastard. how i possibly broke my hand again, pushing it to the side of the road and i felt a snap and its all swollen again. its still pinned together, so ill leave it.

If you need part numbers, bikersjersey.com is fantastic. Goto OEM Parts at the top, the bike you want is the "350,400,620" Smile.

Does landrake track open to public ? I just thought it was races and training their. I know brixton, you just turn up pay and then ride, but not sure about landrake. There is also the plymouth track in ernysettle, which opens up every other weekend, it is mainly a kids thing but i've known people to ride their, and its novice friendly, to get used to the off-road feel.

Yea there's loads of green lanes around devon/cornwall Mr. Green

sold that ages ago Razz like, before i got the R6. If you want it though, get in contact with bittern off here, i sold it to his mate. He doesnt seem to be doing much with it

also, the offroad experience is on hold as i re-broke my hand yesterday so now the healing process is back to square 1. Gay as fuck.

had my first taste of proper ish offroad today on it.
down a greenlane thing that turned out to get much worse the further down i got, so i carried on.

then all of a sudden it all goes flat and turns into a golfcourse! what the fuck?

so some golfers yelled at me for ruining their shitty little game. and i fucked off back up the awesome lane.

google maps makes it pretty clear, but still pretty weird if your not expecting it. doesnt really show it either, but its a pretty steep slope going into a valley.

https://img30.imageshack.us/img30/6017/92210468.jpg

then brixton at the weekend Thumbs Up

Sound's like a good deal Thumbs Up

I'd love one with road tyres on as a city commuter. I imagine it's got quite a bit of poke off the line no?

a suprising amount from a 400, but its all gone in about 6 seconds. by that time your in 5th gear flat out doing about 75mph.

would be good with SM wheels and gearing, but im not going to spend any money on it.

powers up in 1st from literally a standstill, but because im a fat bastard, doesnt really like coming up off anything other than clutch and speedbumps in any other gear.

i personally hate it, so wouldnt mind selling it if you're interested Wink

not sure really. cost me about £10 @ £1.01 p/l to get back from bristol? (about 120 miles).

that was all motorway though.

£10 brims the tank pretty much, and will last a weeks commuting 25 miles a day through town with lots of stop and start.

I would consider it, but I don't have a garage anymore and I think it would last about 5 minutes where I live now before being 'teefed' Sad
