Store wars as Tesco bans Jedi Knight

TESCO has been accused of religious discrimination - after banning a JEDI KNIGHT for wearing a hood.

Members of the Star Wars faith - a religion practised around the world - choose to cover their heads in public.

But the leader of the UK's first Jedi Church was branded a security risk and ejected by three staff after refusing to remove his hoodie at a Tesco in Bangor, North Wales.

Daniel Jones, 23 - also known by his Jedi name Morda Hehol - said: "I told them it was a requirement of my religion but they just sniggered and ordered me to leave.

"I walked past a Muslim lady in a veil. Surely the same rules should apply to everyone." The handbook of the UK Jedi Church, founded by film nut Daniel last year, states: "Jedis must wear a hood up in any public place of a large audience."

Daniel added: "I'll advise worshippers to boycott Tesco if it happens again. They will feel the Force."

A Tesco spokesman said: "We would ask Jedis to remove hoods. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Luke Skywalker all went hoodless without going to the Dark Side."

As far as I knew, Jedi wasn't an actual religion. As such you don't have any religious rights.

There's this article - clicky here about the 2001 census when there was a campaign to get people to put Jedi.

It appears it is recognised as a valid answer for the census but not recognised as a religion (but then as the article points out neither is Pagan, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, etc.) by the census.

I guess the test would be if the Church of Jedi actually applied for charitable status, which I believe the Catholic, CofE, Mormons, etc. churches are for the tax breaks.

So real religions are not recognised as religions in the census? Sounds to me like the census simply doesn't recognise religion per se.

Yes but it's a valid argument really. It comes to something when society is to frightened to ask Muslims to take veils off.

It's unfair that we as biker's/Jedi's must remove helmets in public places yet a Muslim can wear a ninja mask in the same shops/areas.

Yes it's a tired debate and we know nothing will ever be done about it because the term "racist" gets thrown around when someone does question them.

I agree. Particularly given the number of people I see with branded England flags and no obvious regard for the country they supposedly venerate whilst they smash the place up and litter wherever they happen to go. Illiterate shaven headed vermin who breed as a career option when thieving and robbery gets too dicey for them, the pallid alcohol soaked pasty flash wobbling as they move because the football top and tracksuit bottoms they habitually wear are far too tight to constrain the burgeoning gut that is apparently seen as a sign of social status amongst their slack jawed kind.

It is definitely a pity the best of the gene pool went off and got slaughtered.

And what is so racist about referring a group of people as a) Black (are they purple?) and b) Buggers? I refer to my 3 year old niece as a little bugger. She does not get offended.


Clearly, seeing as you like to refer to a group of people seperated by race as "them", you're classing them as different to "us".

I never mentioned skin colour in my post Confused , you did.

personally i dont give a shit what colour someone is.

but i do care that this country is becoming diluted so much. if people of other countries want to live to a culture, then thats ok but do it where that culture is established & accepted as this wont adversely effect the people who already live there. i would not go to tibet and start demanding christian law & preach against those who arent christian... if i did i'd expect to be thrown out.

may i repeat skin colour means nothing to me. you mentioned colour, are you racist?
