Health / hygiene implications of spit on your earplugs

I find they go in easier with a little bit of spit (ahem), but the Mrs reckons it's rank, and going to cause me an ear infection.

I don't see how it's a problem, as long as your hands are clean. Not like spit is a foreign fluid.

What do you think?

Not too sure entirely of the health implications but whilst spit does come from yourself it also carries bacteria and enzymes which I'm sure won't be doing anything amazing for your ears.

Get some KY jelly and lube er' up!

I haven't got an ear infection yet from licking mine.

There shouldn't be much nasty bacteria in your saliva provided there's not bits of food going onto the ear plug.

I just dont comprehend the need to be gobbing on earplugs for lubrication. This is not like anal sex you dont just whack it in there, You roll them small, insert them small, then they expand in your ear canal. Thats what i thought everyone did, untill this thread...

I'd say there wasn't a problem, you go to the quacks and they send you to the ear nose and throat consultant so it's all linked together somewhere. Hold your breath and pop your ears does exactly the same thing.

When you use a bit of spit to aid insertion, the lady never gets infections. I'm shure the lower regions of a woman are a little more sensitive to bacteria than your ear.

You could carry a small tub of vaseline with you to lube up the plug ready for penetration.

I think this thread will quickly become not work safe.

Okay, looks like I'm in the minority with this

My thinking was in line with Stinkwheel's. Got to be better than rolling them up with oily / grubby hands like I always see.

Fu*k it, I'll keep on doing it. If I get a rank ear infection I'll make a post titled "Don't spit on your earplugs; there are health / hygiene implications (with pics)"

Wet ear, YUK!, I use moulded plugs that get sweaty/greasy and I need to dry them off, so putting dribble on an ear plug is just so wrong.

well this qualifies as the most disgusting thread i have read for ages, thanks.
btw, there over 5000 different types of bacteria contained within saliva.
& coming from a family that has a few relatives with hearing problems, i wouldnt want to risk putting a bacteria in my ear canal, that shouldnt be in there.
