DAS .... CBR 600 or hornet 600

hey im doing my DAS in march and im putting cash aside for a new bike for when i pass(hopefully) and i like honda and i have a CBR 125 at the moment and i was onley going to go for a 600 and the dealer recommended either a cbr or hornet 600

but what i keep thinking is MPG as at the mo i get bout 200miles of a £10 if im good so wich one is more fun but has good mpg i think the dealer wanted me to go hornet he kept saying when u crash theres no pannels to replace to wich i think no ill have to replace the exuaust and engine casing and fuel tank so yea help/sugestions btw ill have bout £2000 to use for deposit/ whole thing

i personally think the hornet is outrageous on petrol, drinks it..
I reckon the CBR is an all round win vs hornet, plus you can remove fairings anyway

i wasnt debating that i love hornets.. in fact looking for a 600 right now "climbs out of deep deep hole"

I just prefer the fuelling of the CBR when ridden gingerly

yea but i hate refilling its boreing unless u got a way for me to make it hold like 2x as much petrol

You will need to stop to have a rest after blasting on a hornet. Just to get your sences back and regain control over your excitment.

Could look into the 17L tank. I think was brought in, in 2002. Some one will be along shortly to correct me.

Or Strap a can on the back.

cbr personally would rap to shreds, more for the lively, sunny days where opening it up is really.. not necessary, just to show off

Hornet will probably get your confidence up quicker esp as if you do drop there is less overpriced plastic to wreck, could be more fun aswel...but i likes fairings

Remembering back to my hornet that 100 mile tank range was very annoying. Nice handling bike though.

If he's looking at a 90's CBR it will be the same engine (just with different carbs).

What are the years of bikes you are looking at and their prices?

Claimed top speed of Hornet - 140mph, claimed top speed of 92 CBR... 140mph. I'm guessing you're looking at one of the later F model CBRs? I can vouch that Hornets crash well.

Speaking as a bloke who's had both the CBR and the hornet I would say you need to think what you want it for.

The hornet is fun and more comfortable. Its sit up and beg nature makes it nice for knocking about town, thrashing it to work and back and the odd ride out. The handling is predictable and planted. The pegs are low (like the cbr's) and will deck out fairly early. The bike is a hoot for knee downs if it takes your fancy.

The CBR has a bigger tank, is better finished, slightly less comfortable and is slightly less budget. The suspension is far better and adjustable. It is a more serious tool for hooning and a nice step into the world of 600cc sportsbikes. It is quite sedate when you get used to it and you can cover plenty of miles. There is a fair difference between the hornet and the CBR power wise but both are seriously good fun. The CBR will let you progress more as you learn becasue you wont end up with the pogo stick cornering the hornet suffers from at extremes.

Either way you cant make a bad choice. The CBR isnt an extreme 600cc machine as is very liveable for everyday applications, with the added advantage of being a bit more sporty when you need it. The hornet on the other hand is a reliable all rounder and good fun without the sporty factor.

I would recommend the CBR because I'm selling one

The CBR gets about 56 mpg with normal riding, I usually fill up at 160 miles at which point you're getting very close to reserve. I think mine is downgeared though (never actually bothered to count the teeth and find out ).

If you're buying a new bike why do you even care about MPG? The depreciation will be a MUCH bigger part of the cost of ownership than the difference in fuel economy between any 2 bikes
