just picked up the work van to go to leeds tomorrow for a bike, and Shocked

starts up fine but very slow to rev and no power - like the turbo wasnt kicking inor something, and a cloud of black (not blue) smoke so thick i couldnt see the road behind.

continued for about 2 miles till warm, then cleared up and worked fine no probs.

anyone got any ideas? Thumbs Up

Black smoke is rich running, if it clears once it's warm then check the choke/air filter. Is it Diesel/petrol/carb/injection?

stick it on your drive, just warm it up before hand, i reckon its a diesel..as my dads sprinter used to be the same..when all warm and such, it never had a problem, has clocked up over 180,000miles Smile

When I used to go in the works van there was a rod that kept falling off and every time it did the engine bogged down, not sure what this rod was connected to though but maybe check under the bonnet for it. If I remember correctly when my boss was putting it back on it was near the cab.

Plumes of black smoke can also be put down to having an air leak in the induction system somewhere,like the intake hoses.

hey guys, let the van cool off again this afternoon and after nlistening to to, its definately misfiring or bogging down. if at idle you starm on the throttle, sounds like youre pressing and releasing it again rapidly i.e. vroomVrooomVROOM if ya see what i mean. no vibration either Confused

its a new shape 2.4 115ps high top btw.
