Anyone have a condensed guide to doing this? My mate has given me his Wii to do and I need to learn how to do it. Or if anyone here has some spare time and wants to earn a few quid? Just need to be able to play copied games.

Joe.

Do a search - it has been covered. Or:

PM N30, money may need to exchange hands.

PM VW-MAN (I think) for some up to date tips.

Or search the net, it is easy to mod. You just need a original copy of Zelda Twighlight Princess and a SD Card.

I did it a while back but I know the method varies depending on what version software your Wii is on. Thumbs Up

Don't even need a copy of any game now. Softmodded my Wii 3 weeks ago, all I needed was an SD card and download some software. If the OP can't find the software via google, them PM me, I'll upload the stuff I used to mediafire or something.
Never could get the 'watch dvd's on Wii' part to work though, but it plays 'backup' games and the homebrew soft too so good enough for me (I have a dvd player for dvd's anyway)

Decided to just upload the stuff anyway, by all means virus scan it to keep your mind at ease Smile

You'll need a spare SD card of at least 2gb.
I've uploaded the exact files I used to mediafire here: https://www.mediafire.com/?mozzzhbbdzn
Just follow the instructions in the doc files and it should work fine, it did for me at least!
I added the homebrew browser to the archive too, to install that (after doing the softmod itself) you just unzip and copy the homebrew browser folder to your SD cards apps folder Smile
Once it's all done, you can use the homebrew browser to install homebrew apps and games (some are pretty cool) and emulators.
To play a 'backup' game use the Backup launcher channel that got installed as the 'backup' games disc will show as unreadble to the default game launcher thingy.

One thing to note, I found that when burning the .iso's to dvd it worked best if I used DVD-R and burned the images at 4x speed and no faster...the copies seemed to foul up otherwise.
Still can't get it to play dvd movies, don't care though, can play backup games and emulated games in hombrew channel Smile

hopefully that makes sense to you.
If posting this breaks any forum rules. let me know, I'll remove/edit it.

Laughing It takes a lot to upset the apple cart here. Fret not.

Handy to know you don't need Zelda anymore. Thumbs Up

Edit:

I see it is the V4 version - do you know if it is backwards compatible for those still on V3. versions?

Honestly, I don't know, I only tried it on my Wii and it worked fine.

not seen this post before but yeah zelda not needed anymore thanks to banner bomb attack SmileSmile

if your wii is the old version then now there is no worries on using a legit over the net update for the wii as banner bomb works on even the latest firmware.

I also advise on not even bothering burning discs anymore tbh, just get a usb drive and use a usb loader ont he wii, all games will run form the usb drive faster and no need for discs SmileSmile

Also when using the hd games are stripped to the bare minimum needed so alot of games are less than the 4.3 gig disc, my daughter plays animal crossing and that drops to about 400meg ffs

have fun.

I've heard that when the wii os modded it can be changed to run games stored on an external HD, does anyone know how to do this?

Davie.

yup as per my post above you need a usb loader, then you just whack all your iso's onto a usb harddrive and play from there. There are various diff loader so have a look around.

Have a look over at www.wiihacks.com all the info is ther Smile

Btw theres a new wii firmware out 4.2 and although it is already modable ( after 2 days lol) there are thousands of reports of consoles being bricked, both modded and non modded due to the update failing part way through so I'd hold off on the update. Unless you update before modding hte wii as nintendo have said they will replace all non-modded consoles that fail the update (hmmmm how long for tho)
