Is there a cheaper way of doing your Mod 1 & Mod 2

Been phoning around and had a couple of quotes:

Welsh test centre 1: £380.00 for MOD1 & 2 and training & bike hire.

Welsh test centre2: Traning £24 p/h, Mod 1 £15.50, £25.00 bike hire, Mod 2 £75.00 £45.00 bike hire.
so say I take 2 hours for each training session it adds up to:
£256.50 all in.

I phoned Welsh test centre 2 said it could take all day to be ready for Mod1 and all day for Mod 2 even though i've been riding a bike for 6months. This sounds a bit dodgy to me as they could say that on the day and I woudln't know any different.

Welsh Test centre 1 are made up of police/ex-police and do things properly, and are the ones who gave me my CBT. But are more expensive.

Now I had quotes from London for 570 quid all in, so I know the welsh test centres are cheaper, but £380 or even £260 seems quite steep to me still. Does anyone know if I can book my own tests and get insured on my mates bike for that day so i can do the test for cheap as chips.

Same here, I have passed Mod 1 but failed Mod2, since I am fed up paying for instructor for Mod2 can I get insured on my mates bike and reset the test (Mod 2). Any info is appreciated

You may think £260 is steep, but take the training. I'd been riding for a year when I took my test and I still failed first time, so many little bad habits the instructor will pick up on. Do you remember everything you were taught on your cbt? I doubt it. Give up the £260 and take it, it's bloody cheap I had to pay around £450 for mine.

I had my bike to ride, but lets say you borrowed one from your mates.

Then it cost me £20 for MOD1 (Had to do it twice), £120 for one day's training for MOD2 and what is it for a test £70?

So all in £210

You should be able to get something like that... If you book all your tests yourself.

It ain't cheap but just pay for the training. I've been riding geared bikes off road for years, I still paid for a 3 day DAS. As stated previously its amazing how many bad habits you'll get pulled up on and how many things you assumed were correct but are actually totally wrong.

Best thing for me was riding on a lot of the actual test routes. My instructor covered all the possible hard parts such as awkward junctions, bad road markings, etc. so on the day all i had to focus on was the riding.
